“Oct 4: Investigation into the sale of a baby boy by his mother in Odisha’s Jajpur district has revealed curious details – the money was used to buy a mobile phone and a pair of jeans among other things.
“Rakhi Patra of Mundamala village who sold her 17 month-old son for Rs 5000 purchased a new mobile phone, a pair of jeans, few new tops (to go with jeans) and memory cards for her mobile with themoney,” Jajpur superintendent of police Deepak Kumar said today.
The investigations were conducted when a division bench of Orissa High Court took suo moto cognisance of media reports on the sale and directed the police to recover the baby and hand him over to his mother.
Rejecting the mother’s claim that she sold the child to meet the legal expenses of her jailed husband, Kumar said her new acquisitions were evidence of the fact that she did not sell her baby boy due to poverty.”
I cannot stop myself from sharing this with all of you. It all started when I received a call from someone claiming that he was from my mobile service provider and he asked me to shutdown my phone for 2 hours for 3G update to take place. As I was rushing for a meeting, I did not question and shutdown my cell phone.
After 45 minutes I felt very suspicious since the caller did not even introduce his name. I quickly turned on my cell phone and I saw several missed calls from my family members and the others were from the number that had called me earlier – 3954380.
I called my parents and I was shocked that they sounded very worried asking me whether I am safe. My parents told me that they had received a call from someone claiming that they had me with them and asking for money to let me free. The call was so real and my parents even heard ‘my voice’ crying out loud asking for help. My parent was at the bank waiting for next call to proceed for money transfer. I told my parents that I am safe and asked them to lodge a police report.
Right after that I received another call from the guy asking me to shut down my cell phone for another 1 hour which I refused to do and hung up. They keep calling my cell phone until the battery had run down. I myself lodged a police report and I was informed by the officer that there were many such scams reported. MOST of the cases reported that the victim had already transferred the money! And it is impossible to get back the money. Be careful as this kind of scam might happen to any of us!!! Those guys are so professional and very convincing during calls. If you are asked to shut down your cell phone for updates by the service provider, ASK AROUND!
Your family or friends might receive the same call.

From telling us when our train is coming, helping us when we’re lost and letting us watch our favourite TV shows, there seems no limit to how involved our smartphone is with our day-to-day life.
Now the gadget promises something so advanced it verges on the supernatural: it will know exactly what we’re doing tomorrow.
Scientists have found a way of predicting an individual’s future movements by analysing information their mobile phone.
A team of computer scientists at the University of Birmingham successfully predicted future locations with an error margin of just 60ft, which has fuelled fears of privacy invasions.
While mobile phone networks can already track where a handset is in ‘real time’, the scientists have developed an algorithm – or formula – to forecast our future movements.
They compared data from one individual and their closest social network to predict a person’s future location based on places and areas visited in the past and the frequency of contact between those studied, The Sunday Times reported.
For example, if two individuals who have close contact visit a particular restaurant, it is highly likely that this is where they will be the next time they are both heading towards the area where the restaurant is.
This means that mobile phone providers will be able to predict the future whereabouts of their customers .
The study used mobile phone data from a group of 200 people living in the vicinity of Lausanne in Switzerland.
Seems to be feeling a pinch of their own medicine.
Story from The Dawn.
Millions of people in the country, who were busy exchanging greetings through SMS, received a rude shock on the eve of Eidul Fitr when mobile phone service in some of the main cities was suspended on the direct orders of the federal government.
Mobile phones in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Quetta and a number of other cities started to go silent from 8pm onwards, which was the peak period for most people to exchange Eid greetings.
In many areas of violence-prone Karachi panic gripped the denizens, particularly those whose families were out for last-minute shopping on ‘chand raat’. However, late in the evening the message started to spread around through television that the problem was not due to any malfunctioning or sabotage, but a result of the government’s counter-terrorism measure.
The suspension will continue during Eid prayer hours on Monday.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the action had been taken in view of security concerns of the governments of Punjab and Sindh.
Talking to newsmen, the minister said cellphone service would be suspended all over Punjab at the request of the provincial government.
“The Punjab government has requested us to suspend cellphone service in some parts of the province, but we think it should also made temporarily inoperative in sensitive areas of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh because terrorists usually use mobile phones in their acts of terrorism,” he said.
Contrary to what is believed, it is Women who chase Men, as A Study, based on nearly two-billion cellphone calls and close to 500-million Texts, reveals.
Stands true to Biology.
While the Male‘s job is to donate(?) Sperm and to ensure the well-being of the Offspring, it is th Female who carries the sperm in the womb and ensures the growth and spread of the Species.
Even this ‘ensuring the well-being of the Offspring’ seems to be limited to Mankind, for in the Animal Kingdom it is the Female who does this job, look a the Lions,Elephants,Chimps.
Another interesting fact is that in the Animal Kingdom it is the Male which spruces itself and appeals to female while in Man, the Female goes to Beauty Parlour.
Time more Men went to Beauty Parlours?

After examining nearly two-billion cellphone calls and close to 500-million texts, researchers said they determined that women are more focused on relationships with the opposite sex than men are during their reproductive years, indicating that women are more invested in creating romantic ties.
As women age, however, their grown-up daughters become the people they most frequently contact, replacing their spouses as their “best friends.”
“What seems to happen is that women push the ‘old man’ out to become their second best friend, and he gets called much less often and all her attention is focused on her daughters just at the point at which you are likely to see grandchildren arriving,” Prof. Dunbar said.
BBC reports that men’s phone contact with their spouses also declined over time. Men called and texted their spouse most frequently during the first seven years of their relationship, then shifted their attention to other friends. (Of course, one could arguably interpret this another way: If you’re spending a lot of time with your spouse, you’re probably not contacting them via mobile phone.)
The researchers, who had access to the age and sex of the mobile phone users, said they based their findings on the assumption that mobile-phone communication reflects the most important relationships in people’s lives and the level of closeness of those relationships.
