‘A teenager in south Florida survived being shot in the head with a fishing spear.
Yasser Lopez, 16, was fishing with a friend when the weapon went off as the pair were loading equipment onto their boat.
The spear entered just above his right eye and penetrated through his brain to the back of his skull.
The teenager was airlifted to a Miami-areahospital where doctors spent three-hours removing the spear with the aid of a high-speed drill
The medical team revealed that Lopez had been awake and interacting with the emergency team when he arrived at the hospital, which indicated to the doctors that he could survive the ordeal as they planned the surgery.
Miraculously, no vital brain structures were damaged by the harpoon.
Following surgery he could communicate in short sentences with hospital staff but he had no recollection of the accident.
Is this due to bath salt or does it have anything to do with a virus attack?
The instances are increasing.

MUNNSVILLE — A Madison County woman alleged to be high on drugs is dead after assaulting her child and receiving a Taser shock while she struggled with police.
According to State Police, around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, troopers were called to an apartment on North Main Street in the Village of Munnsville for a report of a woman assaulting her three-year-old child. While police were responding to scene, they say Madison County 911 dispatchers received several follow-up reports that the woman was punching and choking the child and had started to attack a neighbor.
When police arrived, they say they found 35-year-old Pamela McCarthy apparently under the influence of “bath salts”, an illegal synthetic drug. Police say Trooper Christopher Budlong attempted to arrest McCarthy, who was “violently combative” and may have been “growling,” according to police and resisted attempts to handcuff her. Budlong used his police-issued pepper spray on McCarthy to no effect, so he then deployed his Taser and was able to handcuff McCarthy with the help of rescue personnel.
Police then say that after McCarthy was taken into custody she went into apparent cardiac arrest. She was taken by ambulance to Oneida Healthcare, where she later died.
An autopsy was unable to pinpoint the exact cause of death, according to police. It could take several weeks before toxicology results are back.
Wednesday morning, eyewitnesses David and Zachary Bridge told CNY Central’s Jim Kenyon that they saw McCarthy come out of the rear exit of her apartment with the boy in her arms, and tumble down the stairs holding onto the child. They say she began assaulting the child and was yelling incoherently. Witnesses say at one point she was sitting on the pavement spinning and laughing as she was hurting the child. They said the boy’s father intervened and took the child away from McCarthy, at which point she chased a neighbor, Heather Ames, into her apartment and attacked her.
Ames told Kenyon that she fought off the attack, and McCarthy went back out into the parking lot, stripped off all of her clothes, and threatened people passing by.
Witnesses say McCarthy then went back into her apartment and tumbled down the stairs again, this time with her pet pit bull in her arms, and then injured the dog as well. State Police and rescue units showed up at which point McCarthy became combative and resisted arrest. Ames says the Trooper (Budlong) repeatedly told McCarthy to let go of the dog, and pepper-sprayed her to no avail.

A graphic new image shows the grisly scene just moments after the Miami cannibal was shot dead by police as he chewed off a homeless man’s face.
It shows Rudy Eugene lying naked in a pool of blood next to his victim Ronald Poppo, who was attacked as he slept by a busy highway.
Poppo, whose head is drenched in blood, is naked below the waist after Eugene stripped off his trousers before pummeling him and climbing on top of him.
A photograph shown to reporters on Tuesday portrayed Poppo walking down a hospital hallway, supported by hospital staff on either side of him.
The man had his left eye removed but doctors are hoping to restore vision in his right eye, which was also severely damaged in the attack.
He’s pleased to report to all of you that he’s feeling well, he’s eating, he’s walking around with physical therapy, he’s talking with us,’ said Nicholas Namias, a University of Miamitrauma surgeon.
A photo released by the hospital shows the upper two-thirds of Poppo’s face covered in scabs.
He’s missing his nose and both eye sockets were covered, one with gauze and one with what appeared to be a skin graft.
His grey beard was trimmed, leaving a moustache over his upper lip.
Doctors at the hospital said the homeless man also has holes in his chest that may be from bullets fired by the police officer who killed his attacker.
Nicholas Namias, head of trauma, and Popp’s physician, told the Miami Herald that Poppo had two ‘mysterious’ punctures in his chest.
According to doctors from the hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, Poppo is “awake and alert,” and is handling the emotional trauma “remarkably well.” Dr. Nicholas Namias spoke with Poppo this morning, and said he had two words he wanted to convey: “Go Heat.”
He will remain in the hospital for several more weeks as doctors continue to repair his wounds.
I suspect that the’Bath Salt Theory’ may not be correct.

“A newly released surveillance video from atop a Miami Herald parking garage shows the entire violent attack Saturday during which a naked man chewed off most of a homeless victim’s face.
The video, uncensored though partially obscured and from a distance, shows 31-year-old Rudy Eugene in the last moments of his life: striking Ronald Poppo, 65, removing Poppo’s pants, and brutalizing his face in broad daylight for nearly 18 minutes as traffic rolled past on the busy MacArthur Causeway.
Eugene was shot and killed by Miami Police officer Jose Rivera as he loomed over Poppo’s bleeding body, but the video helps piece together the moments leading up to the gruesome attack and suggests the two men met by chance on the MacArthur’s Biscayne Boulevard off-ramp, in the shadow of the Miami Metromover.
CBSMiami reports in a timeline of his last hours that Eugene, who spent Friday night with a girlfriend in Miami Gardens, drove to South Beach Saturday morning to check out Memorial Day weekend festivities and was unable to start his car to make a return trip. Abandoning his purple sedan, which was later towed, police say he at some point set off on foot across the causeway:
It was a hot day, with temperatures in the 90’s, and a long walk. Either late that morning, or early that afternoon, police sources said, Eugene began his trek back to Miami. As he walked across the causeway, they said he started stripping, leaving his clothes on the walkway and in the road.
Cops found his drivers license and clothes strewn from the beach to the mainland.
Footage released by the Herald picks up a fully naked Eugene just before 2 p.m. as he walked down the exit ramp on the other side of the bridge. Pausing in a shady spot, he reels or spins slightly as a bicyclist whizzes by, then is mostly lost to sight as he bends over the homeless Poppo where he sat or lay on the ground.”
