Asked about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s demand that India scale down its diplomatic relations with Pakistan, he said: “We are incensed at this issue. In general, if we are angry with someone and consider them our enemy, we just cannot stop talking to them completely. It is enough if we make them know that we are furious… In the same way, we cannot break off dialogue with Pakistan…”

Peter Bleach, one of the accused in the Purulia arms drop case of 1995 and who has served Eight years in Indian Jail, has revealed startling facts.
He was approached by a man who wanted some arms to be dropped into India.
Bleach, though an Armsdealer, got suspicious and informed MI5( Internal Security) of British Intelligence.
He was informed that the Government of India was interested in finding out the destination of these Arms and they would like Bleach to go ahead to enable Government of India to arrest the conspirators.
Who else can say that there are two power centers and it does not work!
Sonia Gandhi and Man Mohan Singh,Cartoon.
“Personally, I feel this model hasn’t worked very well. Because, I feel there should not be two power centres and I think whoever is the PM must have the authority to function,” the Congress general secretary said in a TV interview.”
He probably means that Man Mohan Singh has the power and no authority and Sonia Gandhi with Authority without power.
One tends to agree with him excepting the last bit about Sonia with out Power.
With Digvijay Singh around, Congress need not look for an Opposition.
Story:
While Singh clarified that Sonia had never interfered in government functioning during the two UPA stints, his comment marked the first frank assessment of the split leadership of government and party post-2004.
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister has often been a critic of the government’s policies and his remarks can be seen as a less than flattering assessment of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s stewardship.
The stinging analysis of the UPA experiment came in the context of Singh strongly rebuffing suggestions that Rahul was reluctant to take up the top job and a reiteration of the belief that the Congress president should also be the PM when the party is in power.
Media reports earlier this month quoted Rahul as telling party MPs that he did not want to become the PM and was instead keen on focusing on organizational revival.
While reinforcing apprehensions in some party quarters that he continued to be a reluctant leader despite his elevation at Jaipur, the statement was read by some to mean that he could repeat the experiment put in place by mother and Congress chief Sonia.
The report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, which was tabled in Parliament Tuesday, raised serious concerns over the scheme after it found lapses and errors in 22% of the 90,576 accounts it audited.
The audit body also alleged that in 2,824 cases there was evidence of tampering and alteration of records, while in 4,826 cases farmers weren’t given due benefits.
A majority of India‘s farmers own small holdings and take bank loans to buy fertilizers and machinery during the planting season. However, as more than 60% of the lands is rain-fed, erratic monsoons often lead to crop failure, forcing farmers to default on loans.
The government launched an agricultural debt waiver and debt relief scheme in 2008 to address farmers’ difficulties in repaying loans on time. It then estimated that about 40 million farmers would benefit from the scheme. In the last four financial years, the government has waived more than 520 billion rupees ($9.5 billion).
Many economists and agricultural analysts had criticized the scheme, saying it was merely a populist move by the United Progressive Alliance government to attract voters ahead of the 2009 general elections.”
Even the quality of women Police available is disheartening.
I have found the women Police to be more heartless than a Policeman in terms of character and humane approach to family issues brought into Police Stations.
These women Police ensure that they get a good bribe to settle the issue even if what is agreed upon is totally unjustifiable.
Lockup rapes are most common.
Recruiting good material for the workforce will be the right step.
And the training of Police force, both Men and women must be scientific and they must be made people friendly.
‘Delhi, for example, is home to one of the largest metropolitan police forces in the world with some 84,000 officers. But only one-third are involved in any kind of actual “policing” at any given time, while the rest provide protection services to various politicians, senior bureaucrats, diplomats and other elites. According to the Times of India there is one officer for every 200 citizens and about 20 officers for every VIP. Many of those who do perform police duties can be found shaking down motorists, participating in protection rackets and simply looking the other way as crimes take place.’
Yes, the strength of The Police Force must be increased
Useless and avoidable deployment of Police Force for the Security of Politicians must be dispensed with(most of the politicians deserve to be a security risk and I wish they succumb to the threat!)
There’s a tendency to assume the victims of sexual violence somehow brought it on themselves. In a 1996 survey of judges in India, 68 percent of the respondents said that provocative clothing is an invitation to rape. In response to the recent gang-rape incident, a legislator in Rajasthan suggested banning skirts as a uniform for girls in private schools, citing it as the reason for increased cases of sexual harassment.
I disagree with this point in that while Rape is not the direct outcome of provocative clothing, one can not deny that provocative clothing provokes.
Even the term ‘provoke’ is used by the author to indicate the rekindling and egging of the desire!
Women, for their safety, must ensure they do not wear dresses that expose their body.
One never knows how many perverts are up there, who imagine bedding every thing in sight!
Asking women to be careful is not a denial of their rights.
True with the rider that one can not roam about bars frequented by the flotsam and jetsam of the society.
The attempt to compromise the rape issue outside the Court also encourages the incidence of rape.
The point to be observed is that while people who talk highly fo liberation of women and self-professed Liberals, How Many of them are prepared to take a girl who was raped as one’s daughter in-law or men who will marry such a girl?
This will take some time.
As things stand, the Court hearing can be held in camera , to begin with.
Sluggish court system, Low Convictions and the low status of women.
Agreed.
The points missed out.
The Lifestyle of Drinking, late night Partying , adoption of Western values, loss of family values, Single parenting do have a major role to play.
I will be posting Blog on The law of Rape in India and the need for Reform.
This includes a proper definition of Rape.
In the frenzy of punishing rapists, one should not take a woman’s word at its face value at every instance.
Even a .1% on those who contest elections based on their current assets/income and subsequent increase in the assets would definitely net a better return!
It might also consider Sin Tax on ‘Rape’ and on ‘Politicians over 60’!
India has mooted the introduction of a designated “sin tax” to finance a part of the health budget during the 12th five year plan (2012-2017).
The 12th plan document, to be submitted to the National Development Council (NDC) presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, says “a sin tax can lead to reduced consumption of harmful items such as tobacco and alcohol and could be considered”.
“A sin tax is a kind of sumptuary tax: a tax specifically levied on certain generally socially proscribed goods and services, for example alcohol andtobacco, candies, soft drinks, fast foods, coffee, and gambling.'(wiki)Philippine PresidentBenigno Aquino III defeated the Catholic Church and the tobacco lobby by using his popularity to push through twin laws to provide free condoms to the poor and boost taxes on cigarettes and liquor.
