A man who has been married for 14 years with two children at an impressionable age, is seeking divorce for his wife is afflicted with OCD.

Fact is most of us have/had OCD  symptoms in our life and we are /were able to hide them.

This is a very curious case.

From the available information, it appears that the man does not want to divorce  but really driven to do it because of the nature of the illness of his wife.

For those who may not have experienced the pressure it exerts, one has to live with the people who have been afflicted with the disease.

This is all the more difficult if you have children at an impressionable age.

This syndrome often exhibits after one has gone through a traumatic  experience.

My elder brother’s daughter developed this when she was thirty after she lost her baby of about 30 days.

She used to wash her hands repeatedly; terrified of the night and strangers.

This lasted for about six to seven months.

Despite bring  referred  to top Psychiatrists, she continued to exhibit these symptoms.

With my limited theoretical knowledge of Psychology, I had her shifted to a new town and gave her two to three sittings of Hypnosis and she was cured.

We ensured that elders were present at home and used to have her undertake some Puja and Paarayana during this period.

In Life, I have seen Faith curing the incurable.

What is required now in this case is intervention of elders( matured ) who can cushion her and find out the reason for her behavior and counsel her.

And follow what I have done.

Also read the Link for more details on this disease.

    It might help.

What the man has may be correct but not Right.

One is with his/her spouse for Life through pleasure and pain.

    That’s life.

I know it is easy to preach but,…   for his present decision he would regret later.

BANGALORE: Prema is a welleducated woman, married to Raghu, an executive with a multinational company in Bangalore. The couple tied the knot in 1997 and has an 11-year-old daughter. Those who don’t know Prema will find her healthy and happy. But her husband and daughter have experiences otherwise. Raghu has moved the family court seeking divorce from Prema saying she’s suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), a mental illness or a psychiatric disorder.

Raghu, in his plea, has contended that in the initial years of marriage he noticed that Prema had a habit of doing certain things repetitively. “She will either keep washing her hands or repeatedly check if the main door is closed. I used to ignore it, but her behaviour became more obsessive after our daughter was born in 2000. Once she started going to school, Prema used to doubt if she really goes to school or not; she does her homework or not. She used to punish the child for petty reasons,” states Raghu.
    DOCTOR‘S DICTATE

B N Gangadhar, professor of psychiatry, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans), had this to say: “Diagnosis cannot answer all questions. A good proportion of these patients show much improvement and we say they are cured.” He explained that in a similar proportion, response to treatment would be satisfactory thus enabling a person to perform most of the essential roles. “However a small proportion would be disabled even after considerable treatment and the disability of performing matrimonial duties can vary from case to case,” he added.

    MERIT OF THE CASE

A family court, while hearing the case last week, asked if obsessive compulsive disorder could be a ground for seeking divorce. “Is this illness incurable? Show how will it affect your matrimonial prospects? What if her illness is cured after divorce is granted?” asked the judge.

    What Are Compulsions?

Behaviors that you repeat over and over again are compulsions. For instance, you might have to repeatedly check to make sure that the front door is locked or that the stove is turned off. These are behaviors that you feel you must carry out over and over, often for hours on end. For example, if you are obsessed with contamination, you might wash your hands over and over again. Other common types of compulsions include cleaning, counting, checking, requesting or demanding reassurance, repeating phrases or sequences of words, and ensuring order and symmetry….

Medical treatment for OCD has focused on drugs called serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Well-known SSRIs include Prozac (Fluoxetine)Zoloft (Sertraline), and Paxil (Paroxetine)Anafranil (Clomipramine), a tricyclic antidepressant, also may be used as a treatment for OCD.

Although these medications are often called antidepressants, they are effective in treatinganxiety disorders such as OCD, too. These drugs are thought to work by increasing the amount ofserotonin that is available within the brain. Problems with serotonin may be an important cause of OCD

SSRIs may take up to 12 weeks at high doses to most fully reduce your symptoms, so it is important that you consistently take your medication. If one type of SSRI does not prove beneficial, your physician may try another SSRI or augment it with other types of medications. Common side effects reported by people taking SSRIs are problems with sleep and sex drive. However, most people are able to tolerate this kind of treatment for OCD without major difficulty.

Vedic Astrology is based on Astronomy.

Hindus have Panchanga which is transmitted by oral tradition .

It predicts Eclipses accurately to the second.

People do have  rough patches in Life when they are convinced that they are facing problems for no fault of their own.

    In those circumstances,prayer helps.

Not that the situation has changed, but you get enough courage to face the challenges.

As Tennyson puts it’Prayer does not change God, but changes the Man who prays’

In Vishnu Sahasranama,The Thousand Names  of Vishnu, it is stated that Vishnu is’Dukka Bukh, Dukka Sadhanaha,-He is the repository of Grief and The Instrument to overcome Grief.

Akshaya means never diminishing. Many things happened on this day: Draupadi was given Akshaya Patra (bowl) by Krishna which supplied unlimited food; Kubera, treasurer of gods, prayed to Lakshmi, goddess of wealth, to fill his treasury; Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, was born; Satya yuga ended and Treta yuga began; the Ganga descen-ded from Heaven; Ved Vyasa and Ganesha began writing the epic Maha-bharata; and Sudama, the poor friend of Krishna, came to Dwarka to ask for help. In return for a handful of beaten rice, Krishna gave immense wealth to Sudama. Gates of the Badrinarayana temple open on this day. Construction of chariots for the Jagannath rath yatra at Puri commences. Jains observe fast and break it with sugarcane juice as king-turned-monk Rishabhdeva was offered sugarcane juice after a year-long fast. So the belief is that worshipping Lakshmi-Kubera, buying gold and silver ornaments, investing money in shares and real estate, buying household things, ploughing land, writing new account books – will all bring prosperity.

Each second of Akshaya Tritiya is auspicious. This is the time to put in our best to get eternal benefits.”

In  what way the Purchase of Gold/any thing new is associated with Akshya Tritiya?

Akshaya Tritiya, variously spelt as Akshya Thiritiya, Akshaya Trutheeya, Akshaya Tritiiya and also called Akshaya Trithi, falling on the third day of the bright half of the lunar month of Vaisakha of the traditional Hindu calendar, is one of the four most auspicious days of the year for Hindus. Akshaya Tritiya is also known as “Akha Teej”. The birthday of Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu falls on this day. The ‘Dharmasindhu’ mentions this is the adi tithi of satayuga. The word Akshaya, a Sanskrit word, literally means one that never diminishes, and the day is believed to bring good luck and success. Akshaya Tritiya is observed when tritiya prevails more before the noon.

Whoever worships lord krishna and applies chandan all over lord krishna goes to vaikuntha. Any japa, homa, pitru tarpana, or dana done that day becomes a-kshaya means he earns lots of good karma that day. In the Mahabharata, the Pandavas received the Akshaya Pathram (bowl) from Lord Krishna on this day. The Akshaya Pathram provided unlimited food for the Pandavas during their exile. Due to this reason, people believe that anything that is acquired on this day will be replenished. This day is specially important as on this day any thing you donate is akshaya or never ending. Therefore people conduct special puja for Goddess Lakshmi and buy new gold and silver ornaments and invest money in shares and real estate. This festival is widely celebrated in all parts of India by different sections of the society irrespective of their religious faith and social grouping.

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej is a Hindu and Jain[citation needed] holy day, that falls on the third Tithi (Lunar day) of Bright Half (Shukla Paksha) of Hindi month of Vaishakha.

Jainism is one of the oldest known religion of world. Rishabhadeva alias Adinath is the first Tirthankara of the Jain. The Day of Akshay Tratiya is worshipped and said auspicious in Jainism because –

Tirthankara Rshabhdeva was king of Ayodhya. He being enlightened gave up all earthly pleasures and chose to lead the life of an ascetic and become a Jain monk. Jain monks do not possess anything, not even food. They do not even cook food for themselves. While hungry or thirsty, they go to people and ask for food or drinking water. Tirthankara Rshabhdeva also went to people and asked food. However, the people of that time did not know anything about the acts of monks, as he was the first monk in this era. People of Ayodhya offered gold, jewellery, gemstones, elephants, horses, expensive garments and even their daughters to honour their beloved king. Rshabhdeva was not in quest of all these. He wanted only 36 morsel of food, and that no body offered him. No body at that time could guess that their king was asking for food. As there was no choice, he had to fast for long time until his grand son Shreyansha kumara understood his need. Shreyansha kumara, finally, offered him sugar cane juice and Rshabhdeva broke his fast with that juice after 1 year. The incident happened on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. This is considered by the Jains as one of the best offerings. It is believed that bestowing upon religious gifts on Akshaya Tritiya becomes inexhaustible. Jains, even today, observe longterm fast to commemorate their first Tirthankara Rshabhadeva and broke their fast on Akshaya Tritiya with sugar cane juice.

As per Hindus, This day is ruled by god Vishnu, the preserver-god in the Hindu Trinity. It is also traditionally celebrated as the birth day of the Hindu sage Parashurama, the sixth Avatar (incarnation) of the god Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, on this day the Treta Yuga began and the river Ganges, the most holy and sacred river of India, descended to the earth from the heaven.

The word “Akshaya” means the never diminishing in Sanskrit and the day is believed to bring good luck and success. It is believed that if you do a charity on this day you will be blessed and will receive blessings many fold. Nowadays jewellers have turned the purity into a marketing gimmick. The day is particularly considered auspicious for starting new ventures. The legend states that any venture initiated on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya shall continue to grow and bring prosperity. Hence, it is normal to see many of the new ventures, like starting a business, ground breaking for construction on the Akshaya Tritiya.

  • Quranic Verses On Violence.

People have been saying that Islam is a religion of Peace.

    Story:

The Quran contains at least 109 verses that call Muslims to war with nonbelievers.  Some are quite graphic, with commands to chop off heads and fingers and kill infidels wherever they may be hiding.  Muslims who do not join the fight are called ‘hypocrites’ and warned that Allah will send them to Hell if they do not join the slaughter.

    The Quran:

Quran (2:191-193)“And slay them wherever ye find them, and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution [of Muslims] is worse than slaughter [of non-believers]…and fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is for Allah.” There is a good case to be made that the textual context of this particular passage is defensive war, even if the historical context was not.  However, there are also two worrisome pieces to this verse.  The first is that the killing of others is authorized in the event of “persecution” (a qualification that is ambiguous at best).  The second is that fighting may persist until “religion is for Allah.”  The example set by Muhammad is not reassuring.

Quran (2:244)“Then fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah Heareth and knoweth all things.”

Quran (2:216)“Fighting is prescribed for you, and ye dislike it. But it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.” Not only does this verse establish that violence can be virtuous, but it also contradicts the myth that fighting is intended only in self-defense, since the audience was obviously not under attack at the time.  From the Hadith, we know that Muhammad was actually trying to motivate his people into raiding caravans with this verse.

Quran (3:56)“As to those who reject faith, I will punish them with terrible agony in this world and in the Hereafter, nor will they have anyone to help.”

Quran (3:151)“Soon shall We cast terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers, for that they joined companions with Allah, for which He had sent no authority”. This speaks directly of polytheists, yet it also includes Christians, since they believe in the Trinity (ie. what Muhammad incorrectly believed to be ‘joining companions to Allah’).

Quran (4:74)“Let those fight in the way of Allah who sell the life of this world for the other. Whoso fighteth in the way of Allah, be he slain or be he victorious, on him We shall bestow a vast reward.” The martyrs of Islam are unlike the early Christians, led meekly to the slaughter.  These Muslims are killed in battle, as they attempt to inflict death and destruction for the cause of Allah.  Here is the theological basis for today’s suicide bombers.

Quran (4:76)“Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah…”

Quran (4:89)“They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks.”

Quran (4:95)“Not equal are those believers who sit (at home) and receive no hurt, and those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their goods and persons than to those who sit (at home). Unto all (in Faith) Hath Allah promised good: But those who strive and fight Hath He distinguished above those who sit (at home) by a special reward,-” This passage criticizes “peaceful” Muslims who do not join in the violence, letting them know that they are less worthy in Allah’s eyes.  It also demolishes the modern myth that “Jihad” doesn’t mean holy war in the Quran, but rather a spiritual struggle.  Not only is the Arabic word used in this passage, but it is clearly not referring to anything spiritual, since the physically disabled are given exemption.  (The Hadith reveals the context of the passage to be in response to a blind man’s protest that he is unable to engage in Jihad and this is reflected in other translations of the verse).

Quran (4:104)“And be not weak hearted in pursuit of the enemy; if you suffer pain, then surely they (too) suffer pain as you suffer pain…” Is pursuing an injured and retreating enemy really an act of self-defense?

Quran (5:33)“The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His messenger and strive to make mischief in the land is only this, that they should be murdered or crucified or their hands and their feet should be cut off on opposite sides or they should be imprisoned; this shall be as a disgrace for them in this world, and in the hereafter they shall have a grievous chastisement”

Quran (8:12)“I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them” No reasonable person would interpret this to mean a spiritual struggle.

Quran (8:15)“O ye who believe! When ye meet those who disbelieve in battle, turn not your backs to them. (16)Whoso on that day turneth his back to them, unless maneuvering for battle or intent to join a company, he truly hath incurred wrath from Allah, and his habitation will be hell, a hapless journey’s end.”

Quran (8:39)“And fight with them until there is no more persecution and religion should be only for Allah” From the historical context we know that the “persecution” spoken of here was simply the refusal by the Meccans to allow Muhammad to enter their city and perform the Haj.  Other Muslims were able to travel there, just not as an armed group, since Muhammad declared war on Mecca prior to his eviction.  The Meccans were also acting in defense of their religion, since it was Muhammad’s intention to destroy their idols and establish Islam by force (which he later did).  Hence the critical part of this verse is to fight until “religion is only for Allah.”  According to Ibn Ishaq (324), Muhammad justified the violence further by explaining that “Allah must have no rivals.”

Quran (8:57)“If thou comest on them in the war, deal with them so as to strike fear in those who are behind them, that haply they may remember.”

Quran (8:59-60)“And let not those who disbelieve suppose that they can outstrip (Allah’s Purpose). Lo! they cannot escape.  Make ready for them all thou canst of (armed) force and of horses tethered, that thereby ye may dismay the enemy of Allah and your enemy.”

Quran (9:5)“So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them.” According to this verse, the best way of staying safe from Muslim violence is to convert to Islam.  Prayer (salat) and the poor tax (zakat) are among the religions Five Pillars.
