    Versatile Blogger Award.jpg
    Versatile Blogger Award.

It has been a journey of joy sharing what little I know, getting information from people who know more and most importantly picking up some good friends in the process, from US to Australia, not to mention people from India.

It is really a pleasure to know that majority of the readers belong to the Age group of 25-40, breaking  the commonly held belief that the younger generation do not read serious stuff, especially relating to Religion and Philosophy.

And the questions I get from my readers have enriched in terms of  research into the subject and making me richer in knowledge.

A word about more blogs on Hinduism and Philosophy.

As I wrote earlier in one of my Pages, I was merely interested in sharing what I thought was worth sharing.

As readers were/are interested in them, I felt it to be my duty to write on subjects my readers are interested in.

So I started writing more on Hinduism and Philosophy.

To my surprise I seem to know some thing about these subjects and enjoy writing on them.

However I shall continue writing on other topics as well.

Now to Versatile Blogger Award nomination.

  • Fast Page Loading Themes Blogs

I have noticed that a slower Page Load affects the Blog Traffic.

If the page of your Blog site is slow, this you can find out by yourself or for details of your page loading time against standard Page Loading time you may check with Quantcast,Woorank ,Alexa or some good Web Analyzing Tools, one of the main reasons is that the Page has too many elements.

One reason is that one uses large images and Videos.

    Blog Themes
    A WordPress Theme

I am aware that Images and Videos make the posts attractive  and lends crdence to your posts, it is advisable to use medium size images and not to load too many Large images and Videos,.

Ensure that your Home Page Posts do not contain more than 15 % Videos/images %.

I shall be posting on this subject.

In common man’s language the page has many, sometimes unnecessary  elements that make the page load slower.

Many of us, including me, try to include as many Free Widgets as possible in our Home Page.

It could be Traffic Monitors where it provides Visitor Information.Internet defense League, Indiblogger,Blog trophies,Clock and the like.

I have used almost all of them under the mistaken impression it enhances my sites aesthetics and the information provided by these widgets are useful for the reader.

Traffic to blog posts, I have noticed, is because of Content.

What we write, and its usefulness to the reader drives traffic.

And authenticity with sources for the information.

Anything more than this distracts the reader.

People browse, in general, for fast and relevant  information

There are exceptions where people want to pass time.

For this they have a lot of sites including social networking sites like Facebook,Myspace,Tumblr, thought he last one accommodates serious stuff as well.

One has to choose a Theme which has minimum elements  technically yet loads faster.

The Color schemes may have a role in this.

So choose a Theme which has minimum elements and make sure it is attractive.

Check if it loads fast .

For an absolute idiot like me trial and error method is the best.

    Try and fix it.

I used tried DePo masthead Theme of WordPress(Free Theme) for a long time.

    it was doing quite well.

Suddenly I changed to some colorful Themes,on being told by mu son that my Theme was bland and unattractive.

I have used more than Five themes.

I was content that my blog was looking grand. it did look.

But I have received comments from my readers that colors distract them from reading th content and some colors are irritating (the last point is subjective ,of course)

Surprisingly most laudatory comments were received for the simple DePo masthead Theme, which you are reading now, stating that it is easy to read and the Page . especially the Home Page loads very fast.

Most importantly I have seen an increase of about 25% in Home Page Views, though content wise there has been no shift in my Blog.

Why do not some of you try similar simple themes?

    * I am not a Technical man and my suggestions need not be correct.

If some one has more relevant information, they may post either in the comments column, send an email or if it is a detailed one send in their post for publication.

  • 100 WordPress Blog Followers Gone Five Minutes

    Update:

I have my blog at www.ramanan50.wordpress.com
I had as, per the Stat., 898 Blog followers, till about ten minutes back.
Suddenly,it came to 722 in one shot.
It is strange that nearly 160 followers unsuscribed at an instant.
    Could this be Technical Hitch?
    Regds.

    Word Press Reply:

    8 September 2013.

    “Hi again,

Ahhh now I understand – thank you for verifying! While we do not appear to have a log of any outage on our end, it is possible that it was just a glitch in how things were displayed, somewhere between the servers and your computer.

I’m glad it’s all fixed up now!

    Cheers,

    Zandy | Happiness Engineer | WordPress.com

Update: The anomaly seems to have been resolved.

Now figures show the earlier ones plus Four more followers.

Thanks to people who have expressed their views , reasons and explanations.

I shall update on receiving reply from WordPress.

As I have been mentioning in my posts about what I blog,I write because I want to be heard.

Whether somebody hears it, does not matter!

However I keep checking the Statistics in the Admin section of my blog site.

While posting a Blog this morning, I noticed a curious thing.

    I had 898 Blog followers.

Total was 14888, which included Comments, Twitter and FaceBook and Tumblr followers, where I distribute my posts.

While writing a Post, this morning, I had to refer my earlier posts.

While doing so, I noticed that the Blog Followers, which just about five minutes back was 898, had become 722, in one shot.

    I am curious.

Have the people who have been following my posts suddenly decided that my posts were not worth following and unsubscribed in five minutes simultaneously?

Or the Followers are nothing but Spam?

Or is it because of some articles I have been publishing for the past two days, notably on The Taj Mahal being a Hindu temple and a Series, a political Satire  on India?

    Or is a Technical Glitch?

    I do not know.

I have written to WordPress whether this is technical hitch.

    Reply awaited.

  • Four Years In WordPress 1.3 Millions

This blog has completed four years in WordPress.

Though I had an idea that I would be completing four years, I did not think of it much as I was not really bothered about writing about it.

However I received a notification from WordPress that this milestone(?) may be blogged as the blog has some interesting features.

    Following are the salient points.

    Fourth Anniversary in WordPress.
    Fourth Anniversary in WordPress.

    Number of Followers 1447.

    Likes                                 1337.

    Categories                         117.

Tags                                16.683(Did I tag that much?)

    Posts                                5748

    Hits                                 13,43,820

    Comments                          3450

    Maximum Hits               29803

    recorded in a day

    Average Hit/day                1832

This is the statistical part of it.

What is more important to me is that I came across very good posts in my search for writing;some of them are found not on the first twenty results of Google search, but are very good in terms of content.

This reaffirms my belief that good articles need not be restricted to the first page results alone.

Probably, these people are also like me, want to share information yet do not know(as I do) the nuances of getting a place in the first Page search results.

Many of  my posts do find a place in the first results though.

Good content is always appreciated, more importantly useful.

This I have learnt from the feedback for my posts.

People do write to me to elaborate on a particular subject, which I have blogged about :and in many a case suggest topics.

This is the part I enjoy the most.

I do get criticisms ;fortunately most of them are creative, guiding me towards clarity and research.

Now most of my posts are on the basis of what the readers want and about what I am confident of writing.

    I do research.

More than the readers I am happy I can acquire information.

I had an initial perception that writing about a popular topic shall drive traffic to your site.

Now I find that content drives.

Yet writing on popular topics gets you the initial readers and on their recommendations you get established.

Then one can write to engage the readers by writing what they want and about what one is confident about.

I have received queries from some bloggers that they have a personal blog and in their opinion they are not getting the Hits as they should, in their opinion.

My answer is that if your content is useful and interesting, Hits will come, though it might take some time. none can say how long.

Some of posts dating back to 2009 are Hits now.

Thank God, I did not delete them;on the contrary, I update them frequently.

    Updating a Post is important.

Another reason why some personal blogs do not Get Hits is the fact that people are not interested in your woes and happiness, unless it is dramatic.

Expression of personal emotions alone will not guarantee you Hits or readers.

It is the general message that others can learn from such instances, with adequate proof or sources will interest the readers.

As usual I have not planned for this post and I have written what has come to my mind off the cuff.

I shall update as and when I get ideas.

    And Thank You,

    Readers,

    WordPress.

  • Check Plagiarism, News Blogs Instantly

I came across an interesting article in the Atlantic on Journalism being turned out to be churnalism.

    Blogs.
    Blogs.

With access to Internet, people can have easy and immediate access to information.

How to find out if it is plagiarized?

    Story:

We live in an age of information, it is said again and again. But that doesn’t mean we live in an age of good information, as last week seemed intent on bearing out. In fact, quite the opposite. Countless times each day, we have to weigh the credibility of a piece of information, and decide whether to put our faith in it.

It’s not really feasible for each of us to track each piece of information to its source (nor would it be efficient), so, instead, we use clues — who wrote this, where is this published, does this square with other information we know. But the trouble is that these clues aren’t perfect indicators, at least in part because even credible publications and professional journalists sometimes regurgitate information without giving it a careful vetting, a process often referred to as churnalism (just as gross as it sounds).

Today, the Sunlight Foundation has unveiled a tool that will help us all with this work. “The tool is, essentially, an open-source plagiarism detection engine,” web developer Kaitlin Devine explained to me. It will scan any text (a news article, e.g.) and compare it with a corpus of press releases and Wikipedia entries. If it finds similar language, you’ll get a notification of a detected “churn” and you’ll be able to take a look at the two sources side by side. You can also use it to check Wikipedia entries for information that may have come from corporate press releases. The tool is based on a similar project released in the United Kingdom two years ago, which the Sunlight Foundation supported with a grant to make it open source. Churnalism will be available both on the website and as a browser extension. Its database of press releases includes those from EurekaAlert! in addition to PR Newswire, PR News Web, Fortune 500 companies, and government sources.

What one is to do is to submit either a url or Text to find out if it is Plagiarized.

    And hit ‘Submit’

    You get the results immediately.

My son has often said that I comment on News Stories , Articles and I have a Blog.

So, his contention is that my Readership and Ranking in India and in Alexa is actually not correct.

My reply was and is that a News or an event has to be reported first .

Then for the second writer this material becomes ‘plagiarized”

That means that there can be no News or Report appearing more than once,

So, the content may be elsewhere but your views and perspectives have to be unique.

This was my reply to him

I wanted to test this with this soft ware( I tested with another Software and the result was ‘No Matches, that is ‘original)

    Testing software at:

I submitted two articles, one containing information from sources on KGB paid Rrajiv Gandhi( Is ubmitted the url)

“Explaining that the modifications of the Chithi,Yoga delves further into describing the tool that can make the Modifications extinct and enable the Individual to return to his original Self or His Natural Identity..

The modifications of the Chitha starts from and due to the Mind and its activities.

Can we control The Mind be controlled and make us do our bidding?

    Yoga confirms we can.

    But it is difficult.

We are aware how difficult it is to reign in the Mind.

The more one tries to control the Mind, more it would become uncontrollable and roam, than it would have been, had we kept quiet.

This is not a disqualification for practicing Yoga nor is this unique to you, of us , the fickle minded.

Arjuna, who mastered the art of Concentration, for he was the one, when asked by his Guru to hit a bird, after felling it , said later, that he could see nothing else but the bird only, found it difficult to control the Mind and confesses to lord Krishna in The Bhagavad Gita.(6.34)

Watertown Shootout From Kitzenberg’s blog: Body of Tamerlan, Boston Bomber. Watertown Shootout Timeline. UPDATE 3:20PM 4/23/2013: I have decided to take down the photos during the ongoing investigation. On Thursday night [Friday morning] at 12:45am EST. I was in my living room working on my computer when I heard multiple “pops” coming from outside. At that point, I had no idea that I was about to become an eye witness to the biggest news story in the country. When I looked outside my window, I could clearly see two people (the Tsarnaev brothers) taking cover behind an SUV and engaging in gunfire. After witnessing shots being fired I promptly ran up the stairs to my 3rd floor bedroom to distance myself a little further away from the gunfire. As I ran into my room, overwhelmed by shock, adrenaline, and curiosity, I jumped onto my bed to stay below the windows but also have a clear view at the shooters and photograph the event. As soon as I was laying safely on my bed I started taking pictures with my iPhone 5 and captured the following images that documented the terrifying shootout with the Tsarnaev brothers, which then led to an overnight citywide manhunt. Here are the two brothers taking cover behind the black Mercedes SUV and shooting towards Watertown Police officers.
