REDDIT, the self-styled trend setter off free cyber views is known for its publishing of views of its readers, even if the are down right offensive and childish , some times both t the same time.

This freedom of Expression Champion would not have you commenting on the US stories!

Its stories appearing under Atheism are out right Rude and one gains the impression that the Atheists are insensitive and hare-brained.

To be an Atheist or a Sceptic in one thing but being intolerant , incohesive  and down right rude is another.

    See a childish story below.

“My seven year old said “I’m atheist!”. I responded with “Why?“. After thinking for a minute, she came back with “Because they didn’t prove God and Jesus existed, and even if he was real, Jesus couldn’t walk on water, because they proved that wrong on Mythbusters! Adam had floaty shoes, but couldn’t move without paddles!”

So, my seven year old is now an atheist because of Mythbusters. Hooray for Adam and Jamie.

EDIT: Wow. Thank you all for the overwhelmingly positive response! 🙂 I’ve shared a few with my daughter, and she is incredibly embarrassed (in a good way). I never expected feedback to this incredible extent, so thank you!”

How an abstract thought can be treated with levity and mockery!

    REDDIT abounds in these.

Now comes a complaint that Islam and Mohammed are beong ridiculed in REDDIT.

    True.

But Islam contributes to these types of views by its history of violence and intolerance.

Best is to ignore the juvenile views of some of the readers of reddit.

Attention Muslims of the world: Better get your Muslim-ing in ASAP because atheist users of Reddit have decided to “go after”your puny religion. Rest in peace, Islam. You had a good thousand-and-a-half-or-so years but you’re no match for image macros and rage comics.

The atheism section of Reddit is a popular venue for insufferable non-believers to swap screenshots of the interminable Facebook comment flame wars they wage against their fundamentalist friends and Christian relatives. No religious-themed Facebook post will go un-commented on by these fearless logic warriors. But now Reddit’s atheism brigade has turned the full brunt of its attention to Islam, after a user claiming to be an ex-Muslim asked for their help.

Finally, someone on the internet will criticize Islam!

Often these sorts of campaigns end up in a frantic fundraising drive, but it looks like thebus monitor lady has used up all the internet’s money-raising mojo for the week. Instead, anti-Islam memes are flooding the front page of Reddit; Lolcats for people who sleep with a copy of God Is Not Great under their pillow. There’s a “Scumbag Muslim”meme, and a “Most Interesting Mohammed”meme, and this cartoon about how Islam has been “raping children for 1400 years” that is like something your 75 year-old racist great uncle would forward to you in an email. In fact a lot of the memes that Reddit users have been voting to the front page in their supposedly witty “war” on Islam are predicated on the same gross stereotypes of Muslims as rampaging terrorist-rapists favored by the likes of the shithead Pastor Terry Jones. There’s even a similar obsession with burning the Quran. (That last picture also happens to use a Hindu to represent a Muslim. But what the hell, they’ve all got turbans.)

Atheists on Reddit decrying a religion as the practice of intolerant douchebags is as ridiculous as… well, atheists on Reddit decrying a religion for treating women like shit.”

  • God Prefers Atheists over Christians

    Church sign
Sign in United Methodist Church,Rose City park

    Sounds funny.

But it has an element of Truth behind it.

When Christianity has forsaken the Teachings of Jesus and had become an MNC with targets for Conversion and meaningless rituals to hold together Papacy, which was a creation of Constantine, definitely none in his senses prefers Christianity in this form.

But God is neither happy if you believe in Him or Unhappy if you deny Him.

Reality does not bother about all these.

Gravitation and Motion does not care if you believe in them or not.

    Refers to:

Christians and atheists are typically at odds, at least when it comes to theology. So when a church posted a sign that praised “kind atheists” over “hateful Christians,” it’s no surprise the message gained a great deal of attention. While some were offended, many more were supportive of the sentiment the church was attempting to spread.

The United Methodist Church is reporting that Rev. Tom Tate of Rose City Park United Methodist Church in Portland, Oregon, chose to make the bold statement about the state of Christian character and the need for believers to be nice and loving to those around them. The church sign, which reads, “God Prefers Kind Atheists Over Hateful Christians,” has been spreading wildly via social media, prompting hundreds of calls to the church from across the nation and the globe.

While the message may be a tough pill to swallow for some Christians who believe that non-belief is a tragic societal occurrence — even more tragic than Christians behaving badly — Kay Pettygrove, an administrator at the church, says that positivity has been the predominate sentiment. Pettygrove claimsthat there has been 30 positive comments for each negative one and says that the church is “flabbergasted” over the response.

“I got an email from a young Mormon man saying, ‘Thank you so much. It made me rethink how I treat people,’” she explains. “Many atheists have said, ‘If there were more churches like yours, we would probably reconsider.’”

  • Organized Religion to Be Extinct?

Religion is to provide an answer to the inner craving of Man,to find out whence he is,where he is and where does he go from here.

He can not comprehend that one day he will cease to be.

He is afraid of the pain at the time of Death and anxious about where he shall go after Death.

He sees, in day-to-day Life ,that things and events are not in his control, most of the time.

He is unable to fight against things that seem unknown.

Religion was born out of fear and Curiosity.

When man seems to know and control some Forces of Nature( which he does not), this fear subsides.

    Then something new strikes.

He is torn between Faith and Doubt.

    As doubt increases faith wanes.

Organised Religion does not help Man.

It takes the essentials ,organise it with known data and propagates, forgetting that Religion is highly individualistic and personal

    it propagates dogmas.

It dooms other systems of thought as unworthy and followers of that system.

    But Religion should be unorganised.

    It should have no dogmas.

    It should have flexibility.

It must allow the individual to choose his/her path.

Whatever the system is, if it is to help individuals it has to respect them, even if it is Atheism.

    Hinduism follows all these parameters.

It has survived, despite onslaught from other systems of thought and in fact has embraced whatever it thought was to the benefit of the individual.

Organized religion ‘will be driven toward extinction’ in 9 countries, experts predict

    By Richard Allen Greene, CNN

Organized religion will all but vanish eventually from nine Western-style democracies, a team of mathematicians predict in a new paper based on census data stretching back 100 years.

It won’t die out completely, but “religion will be driven toward extinction” in countries including Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands, they say.

It will also wither away in Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland and Switzerland, they anticipate.

They can’t make a prediction about the United States because the U.S. census doesn’t ask about religion, lead author Daniel Abrams told CNN.

But nine other countries provide enough data for detailed mathematical modeling, he said.

“If you look at the data, ‘unaffiliated’ is the fastest-growing group” in those countries, he said.

Organized religion ‘will be driven toward extinction’ in 9 countries, experts predict

“I became interested in this because I saw survey data results for the U.S. and was surprised by how large the unaffiliated group was,” he said, referring to a number of studies done by universities and think tanks on trends in religion.

Studies suggest that “unaffiliated” is the fastest-growing religious group in the United States, with about 15% of the population falling into a category experts call the “nones.”

They’re not necessarily atheists or non-believers, experts say, just people who do not associate themselves with a particular religion or house of worship at the time of the survey.

Abrams had done an earlier study looking into the extinction of languages spoken by small numbers of people.

When he saw the religion data, his co-author “Richard Wiener suggested we try to apply a similar technique to religious affiliation,” Abrams said.

The paper, by Abrams, Wiener and Haley A. Yaple, is called “A mathematical model of social group competition with application to the growth of religious non-affiliation.” They presented it this week at the Dallas meeting of the American Physical Society.

Only the Czech Republic already has a majority of people who are unaffiliated with religion, but the Netherlands, for example, will go from about 40% unaffiliated today to more than 70% by 2050, they expect.

Even deeply Catholic Ireland will see religion die out, the model predicts.

“They’ve gone from 0.04% unaffiliated in 1961 to 4.2% in 2006, our most recent data point,” Abrams says.

He admits that the increase in Muslim immigration to Europe may throw off the model, but he thinks the trend is robust enough to withstand some challenges.

“Netherlands data goes back to 1860,” he pointed out. “Every single data that we were able to find shows that people are moving from the affiliated to unaffiliated. I can’t imagine that will change, but that’s personal opinion, not what the data shows.”

But Barry Kosmin, a demographer of religion at Trinity College in Connecticut, is doubtful.

“Religion relies on human beings. They aren’t rational or predictable according to the laws of physics. Religious fervor waxes and wanes in unpredictable ways,” he said.

“The Jewish tradition that says prophecy is for fools and children is probably wise,” he added.

And Abrams, Wiener and Yaple are not the first to predict the end of religion.

Peter Berger, a former president of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion, once said that, “People will become so bored with what religious groups have to offer that they will look elsewhere.”

He said Protestantism “has reached the strange state of self-liquidation,” that Catholicism was in severe crisis, and anticipated that “religions are likely to survive in small enclaves and pockets” in the United States.

He made those predictions in February 1968.

  • Atheists have a right to preach.

    Pope benedict XVI

The fundamental principle of a religion should be that one has the Right to practice what he believes in.Just as any other stream of thought, Atheism is a thought. They have a Right to their opinions.

    None can deny them that.

    Let us look at History.

Christianity since the day of its birth went after people  to convert, calling those who do not believe in Christ to be heathens.

We know of Crusades, also of the   treatment  of  Protestants in the hands of Catholics ( and vice versa),also of Bloody Mary and the ways of the Popes. Not only that- Christians went about proselytization on a grand scale ,by Britain through out the world.

Freedom of Thought is something of an anathema to Christianity,be it religion,or science(Galileo  was forced to recant while being kept in custody).

Now Christians moan the assault of Atheism

Truth does not need the cruthces of propaganda.

Extend the courtesy  of  Freedom of  Thought to others.

    Story:

For a country that prides itself on religious tolerance, this has been a shaming week.

Thanks to the BBC and a noisy cabal of self-important atheists and Catholic-haters, we have been subjected to wall-to-wall attacks on the Pope and his Church.

Leading this vicious anti-Christian charge were Stephen Fry – who seems to get smugger by the day – and Richard Dawkins, who described Pope Benedict XVI as a ‘leering old villain in a frock . . . whose preaching is responsible for the deaths of countless Aids victims in Africa.’

“Even in our own lifetime, we can recall how Britain and her leaders stood against a Nazi tyranny that wished to eradicate God from society and denied our common humanity to many, especially the Jews, who were thought unfit to live. I also recall the regime’s attitude to Christian pastors and religious who spoke the truth in love, opposed the Nazis and paid for that opposition with their lives. As we reflect on the sobering lessons of the atheist extremism of the twentieth century, let us never forget how the exclusion of God, religion and virtue from public life leads ultimately to a truncated vision of man and of society and thus to a “reductive vision of the person and his destiny” (Caritas in Veritate, 29).”

    Dawkins responds:

Even if Hitler had been an atheist, his political philosophy was not based upon atheism and had no connection with atheism. Hitler was arguably (and by his own account) a Roman Catholic. In any case he enjoyed the open support of many of the most senior catholic clergy in Germany and the less demonstrative support of Pope Pius XII. Even if Hitler had been an atheist (he certainly was not), the rank and file Germans who carried out the attempted extermination of the Jews were Christians, almost to a man: either Catholic or Lutheran, primed to their anti-Semitism by centuries of Catholic propaganda about ‘Christ-killers’ and by Martin Luther’s own seething hatred of the Jews. To mention Ratzinger’s membership of the Hitler Youth might be thought to be fighting dirty, but my feeling is that the gloves are off after this disgraceful paragraph by the pope.

    http://www.alan.com/2010/09/17/richard-dawkins-furious-at-pope-for-tying-godless-to-nazis/

Catholic League president Bill Donohue reacts to the way British atheists are handling Pope Benedict XVI’s trip to their homeland:

The pope cited Hitler today, asking everyone to “reflect on the sobering lessons of atheist extremism of the 20th century.” Immediately, the British Humanist Association got its back up, accusing the pope of “a terrible libel against those who do not believe in God.”

The pope did not go far enough. Radical atheists like the British Humanist Association should apologize for Hitler. But they should not stop there. They also need to issue an apology for the 67 million innocent men, women and children murdered under Stalin, and the 77 million innocent Chinese killed by Mao. Hitler, Stalin and Mao were all driven by a radical atheism, a militant and fundamentally dogmatic brand of secular extremism. It was this anti-religious impulse that allowed them to become mass murderers. By contrast, a grand total of 1,394 were killed during the 250 years of the Inquisition, most all of whom were murdered by secular authorities.

Why should atheists today apologize for the crimes of others? At one level, it makes no sense: apologies should only be given by the guilty. But on the other hand, since the fanatically anti-Catholic secularists in Britain, and elsewhere, demand that the pope—who is entirely innocent of any misconduct—apologize for the sins of others, let the atheists take some of their own medicine and start apologizing for all the crimes committed in their name. It might prove alembic.

By the way.did not the Catholic Church( read Pope) keep quiet during Holocaust, on the mistaken notion that it was alright that Jews were gotten rid by Hitler?

What was the relationship of  the Papacy with Mussolini?

  • 6 (Unlikely) Developments That Could Convince This Atheist To Believe in God

    Religious beliefs are unfalsifiable?
So are axioms in Science-three angles of a triangle is equivalent to 180 degrees, law of Causality/uniformity of nature..
What is evidence? Evidence is a set of facts perceived by the individual conditioned by law of causality and Uniformity of nature which is not correct.
Evidence as message-What exactly are you looking for?
    Universe itself is a message.
Human mind sees evolution and links?
Tell me, what is your mind? And what is Universal intention and how does one know it, much less to say it has none.
Let us first define mind, then proceed further.
There is no such thing as Super natural as every thing is Natural.
Every thing we think and do is natural and you can not call something as Super Natural because you can not explain by Laws known to you.
You can not trust senses for they lie and change;you can not trust others. But you can not deny you doubt.Cogito Ergo, Sum ,I think, there fore I am (Rene Descartes)
The Universal principle which is being erroneously called God does not go about proclaiming its omniscience and Omnipotence. It has more important work(if it has any intentions) to do rather than proving itself to us.In what way do we arrogate ourselves that we are worth being noticed?
Things happen in the world.it is us who try to link them hence there is no question of any necessity to prophesy.
Probably this piece has been written based on The Bible without referring to Philosophical treatises of the West and religious systems of the East.
Name of Bhagavad Gita has been mentioned.By the very expectation of the Gita it is evident the author has not studied it.
While dealing with abstract subjects, it is better to study and the write.Philosophy is not pulp fiction or gossip writing.
for details one may read the sacred texts like Bhagavad Gita /Upanishads if one wants to be enlightened. Or the least one can read my blogs filed under Indian philosophy/Religion/Hinduism.
If one looks for tautology and intellectual masturbation -well, there is nothing to say.
