    Now AAp has trained its guns on karunaidhi and the DMK, with Prashant  Bhushan of the Aam Aadmi party alleging that he had a tape recording of the talks

    “between former ADGP Intelligence Jaffar Sait, Kalaignar TV Managing Director Sharad Kumar, Kanimozhi and Karunanidhi’s Private Secretary Shanmuganathan on how to manipulate the funds and documents with regard to the 2G scam.”

    In a move that portends more trouble for the DMK chief’s daughter, the CBI has decided to analyse the taped conversations which the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claims as additional “evidence” in the 2G scam showing alleged roles of Karunanidhi, his daughter Kanimozhi and the top cop from Tamil Nadu.

    “A conversation which is said to have been taken place in February-March, 2011 purportedly between Sharad Kumar and Jaffar Sait, has come to the notice of CBI through media reports,” the CBI spokesperson said in a statement.

    The CBI is in the process of obtaining the recordings and transcripts of these conversations, the spokesperson said.

    “We will first establish the veracity and genuineness of these tapes,” a senior CBI officer said. In its charge sheet in 2G scam, CBI alleged that Kalaignar TV, in which Kanimozhi and her mother Dayalu Ammal had 80 per cent stake, allegedly received Rs 214-crore from Shahid Balwa’s Dynamix Realty, Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables and Cineyug Films in return of favours given to Swan Telecom by then Telecom Minister A Raja in 2G spectrum allocation.

    Kanimozhi, who was also charged under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, had claimed that this amount was an unsecured loan which had been returned.

    Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in Chennai, DMK chief M Karunanidhi denied  allegations and charges by Bhushan that there was an attempt to cover up the corruption charges against Kanimozhi.  The DMK chief turned all his ire at Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and asked the reporters: “What corruption? What allegations? You go and ask Jayalalithaa about her disproportionate  assets”.

    The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is facing trial in a special court in Bangalore in the disproportionate asset case filed against her by the Karunanidhi regime (1996 to 2001).

    In one of the tapes released by Bhushan, Sharad Kumar, who is also an accused in the 2G case, is heard telling Jaffar Sait that Kanimozhi was indeed a Director of the TV channel when kickbacks in the scam flowed into the TV company. This admission will be a great blow to Kanimozhi, who has been arguing in court that she was not a Director during the period when the TV channel received the alleged bribes from companies linked to another accused Shahid Balwa.

    Though the CBI had demolished Kanimozhi’s arguments in the 2G court with proof during trial, the leaked tapes are further evidence of her complicity in the scam.

    The conversations took place between February 2011, when the CBI started questioning Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar. In the leaked tapes, Sharad Kumar is heard talking about forging documents to save Kanimozhi. The tapes were believed to have been leaked by A Sankar, former employee of Tamil Nadu State Vigilance who runs a website called Savukku.

  • Radia 2 G Tapes Trigger Corporate IT Involvement Probe

    I have written some posts,about 80, filed under Radia Tapes,Karunanidhi providing a detailed analysis  of the 2 G scam and the other criminality involved.

    It has taken years for the Supreme Court of India to realize that there has been sleaze all around.

    The Corruption, manipulation and absolute misuse of Government machinery by the Corporate Houses is mind-boggling confirming the fact that the country is for the taking  by the moneyed, aided by the Bureaucrats and politicians.

    2 G Scam triggers more probes

    Now the Supreme Court has asked the CBI to investigate some more case, which involves Corporate and the Income Tax Department.

    It has come to light, which should have been at the first instance of listening to the Tapes,that there have been more deals fixed by Radia than the mere 2 G fraud.

    Income Tax department went out-of-the-way to favor her, even after the 2G Scam surfaced and the trial was on!

    These are the cases , where the Supreme Court case feels that there is a prima facie ground for a detailed inquiry.

    ‘ It is that the court has prima-facie found sufficient reason for a more detailed probe into these deals. They are:

    * Supply of low-floor buses by Tata Motors to Tamil Nadu Government under the Centre’s JNNURM scheme

    * Appointment of Pradip Baijal, ex-chairman of TRAI, as chairman Pipeline Advisory Committee

    * Allotment of coal blocks to Anil Ambani Group’s Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project

    * Allotment of iron ore mines at Ankua, Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, to Tata steel

    * Favours shown by V K Sibal, then Director General of Hydrocarbon to RIL and quid pro quo received

    * Fudging of subscribers base/record by Reliance Communication, ADAG company and submission of the same to Bombay Stock Exchange and TRAI to save money

    * Working of touts middlemen and kickbacks in the aviation sector

    * Market manipulation and hammering of stocks of Unitech

    “The conversations between Ms Nira Radia and her associates with various persons suggest that unscrupulous elements have used corrupt means to secure favours from the Government officers, who appear to have acted for extraneous considerations,” the bench said as it set a 60-day deadline for the CBI to look into the controversial deals.

    Besides, the bench has also sent notice to the chief vigilance officer, ministry of mines, for taking appropriate action on “allotment of iron ore mine to Reliance ADAG group without having any steel plant.”

    A Chartered Accountant, who was working as a tout of the IT department  is to be probed as well(PTI in Twitter)

    These scams are like Sindbad’s story, never-ending.

    I am sure nothing will come out of this. excepting some high decibel debates in the News Channels, a farce of an enquiry and the corruption juggernaut rolls on.

    The court has ordered Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into 14 most serious cases, involving top industrialists and bureaucrats. One issue, which relates to corruption/malpractice in judiciary/judges/tribunals, etc, has been referred to the Chief Justice of India, while another, on “allotment of iron ore mine to Reliance ADA group without having any steel plant”, will be looked into by the Chief Vigilance Officer of the mines ministry.

    These issues were brought out in two reports prepared at the instance of the court, one consisting of officials from the Department of Revenue of the finance ministry and the other by an inter-ministerial committee. They had prepared 17 such issues. (SC ORDER EXPLAINED)

    A Bench of judges G S Singhvi and Justice V Gopal Gowda directed CBI to make inquiries and file its report within two months.

    CBI’s reports will be given to a new Bench on December 16 that will not include Justice Singhvi, who retires on December 11.

    The issues to be probed include favours allegedly shown to top corporate houses like Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd, Anil Ambani’s Reliance ADA Group and the Tatas, working of touts, kickbacks in the aviation sector, manipulation of Unitech’s stocks and illegal gratification paid to tax officers.

    Holding that the taped conversations suggest “unscrupulous elements have used corrupt means to secure favours from government officers”, the court has directed the probe on various issues, including “favours” shown by V K Sibal, the then director general of hydrocarbons, to RIL and quid-pro-quo received. It has also ordered a CBI probe into the allotment of coal blocks to the Sasan ultra mega power project, run by Reliance ADA Group, and allotment of Iron ore mines at Ankua, in Singhbhum District of Jharkhand to Tata Steel.”

  • 2G scam -weakened by the Government? Raja,Kani to be let off?

    The CBI seems to have taken a  180 degrees turn in the 2G scam case.

    Look at the way Unitech and Swann cases being watered down by the submission of the CBI in the Supreme Court that they could not link the manipulation of records and the allotment of the 2G Spectrum Licence.

    Placing its 2G scam probe status report before a bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly, the agency through senior advocate K K Venugopal said the shareholding pattern was changed just two days before the allotment of licence. He said the third chargesheet in 2G scam relating to Loop-Essar would be filed by August 31.

    …New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday told the Supreme Court that there was no evidence to suggest that former communications minister Dayanidhi Maran used coercive methods to force C. Sivasankaran to sell his stakes in telecom company Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis group.

    Senior counsel KK Venugopal, appearing for the probe agency, told the apex court bench of Justice GS Singhvi and Justice A.K. Ganguly that the CBI “may examine” the then finance minister Jaswant Singh over alleged wrongdoings in the communications ministry in the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government.
