    Karma Yoga In Sri Rudram

Truth as perceived by Seers have been transmitted orally.

Such experience was gained by Seers by following Vedas.

    Vedas are expressions of Reality.

Being Personal experiences, they can not be classified at the time of transmission.

Thousands of Seers, called Rishis, have transmitted the information.

Such experiences,as time grew became voluminous.

After a period of time these experiences have come to be classified.

One must understand that experiences are unique and can not be replicated by the others.

Yet it may serve as signpost for Seekers.

    Each individual in unique.

    Their dispositions vary.

Realisation is dependent on One’s nature,Swabhava.

As many number of people,as many experiences.

When they are studied four general directions may found to Realize Self, Brahman.

    They are,

    Gnana Yoga Path of Knowledge,

    Karma Yoga Path of Action,

Raja Yoga, Path of regulation of Consciousness by Physical and mental approach and

Karma Yoga, Path of Action,by performing an Action without being clouded by its results.

These paths are found in all Hindu texts.

There is no separate text for each of these.

Even Patanjali Yoga Sutra contains details of other Path, though it concentrates on Raja Yoga.

Thus, one will find all these in Bhagavad-Gita and all Vedic texts.

It is for us to choose the Path.

To guide us dispassionately,a Guru is needed.

One would find such instances of all paths even among the specific Mantras for A Deity.

Though Vedas do not advocate personal Concept of God and insists on Reality beyond Attributes, called Nirguna Aradhana, Vedas, understanding that human mind needs an anchor to evolve Spiritually, have also provided for Saguna Aradhana, that is Realising Reality through Deities.

Many stotras are found in many Deities.

All mantras,Astototras, Sahasranamas, though addressed to Individual Deity, also contain mantras on Nirguna Brahman.

In some texts it is marked clearly

    For example, Lalitha Sahasranama.

You would find Saguna Upasana and Nirguna Upasana, and the Union of SelfandBrahman,Eikyanusanthaana, marked.

If we look, all Yoga systems are also covered.

Here let me address the Karma Yoga being mentioned in Individual Sahasranama.

    Of,

    Vishnu,

    SriRudram,

    Lalitha Sahasranama.

    Vak Yagnyena Kalpatham,

    Mano Yagnena kalpatham’

    Sakshur Yagnena Kalpatham,

    Srothram Yagnena Kalpatham

    Atma Yagnena Kalpathaam,

    Yagnyo Yagnena Kalpathaam ‘

    (Sri Rudram-Chamaka Prasna)

Please read Details on Vedic Rites

Here the fruits of Action performed in Yagnyas is dedicated to the Reality,by even relinquishing the results of Yagnyas to Yagnya Itself.

The meaning of the lines quoted above is,

    ‘I dedicate Speech to Yagnya,

    Mind to Yagnya,

    Perception to Yagnya,

    Hearing, knowledge to Yagnya.

    Self to Yagnya and

    Yagnya,action to Yagnya.

Clear indication here of The Performance,Performer and for Whom it is performed are One.

You will find the echo when Krishna says to Arjuna in the Bhagavad-Gita,

Real Karma Yoga is devoid of the even the thought,Determination,Sankalpa, Results.

Human Actions Affect Sun,Moon Study Affirms Hindu Text Sandhya Vandana

Astrology is about the influence of Heavenly bodies on Human beings and events on earth.

It has been established that the movement of Moon affects the Blood flow.

It is observed that, during Surgery, bleeding is less,if Surgery is performed during the waning of the Moon,Krishna Paksha.

Hence, those who follow Sastras fix dates for surgery during Krishna Paksha.

And it is called proved that during Full Moon, body fluid levels rise and those with mental issues suffer more during New Moon.

Interesting that movement of celestial bodies could affect those on Earth, not only Man,but animals and plants.

There is another side to this.

Do the activities on Earth affect Heavenly bodies, like Sun, 🌒?

    Research affirms this.

Hinduism talks about the duties of Man.

    They list five.

    Manusha yagnya, Oblations to Man,

    Pitru Yagnya, Oblations to Ancestors,

    Deva Yagnya, Oblations to Deities,

Bootha Yagnya, Oblations to The Five elements of Nature, and

    Rishi Yagnya, Oblations to Seers.

These are performed to ensure we live happily.

In return for these yagnyas, they, in turn, bestow us with the necessities of Life.

istan bhogan hi vo devadasyante yajna-bhavitahtair dattan apradayaibhyo
    yo bhunkte stena eva sah’
In charge of the various necessities of life, the demigods, being satisfied by the performance of yajna [sacrifice], will supply all necessities to you. But he who enjoys such gifts without offering them to the demigods in return is certainly a thief.

    Bhagavad-Gita Chapter 3,Verse 12

    devān bhāvayatānena
    te devā bhāvayantu vaḥ
    parasparaḿ bhāvayantaḥ
    śreyaḥ param avāpsyatha

    Bhagavata Gita chapter 3,verse 11.

That is human beings, when they offer to Devas, Heavenly beings, they, being satisfied return in kind, like ensuring adequate timely rainfall, healthy growth for plants, animals and human beings.

The mutual help between Man and Heavenly bodies ensure The Balance of the Ecosystem ofcthe Universe.

The daily religious practice of Performin Sandhya Vandana, offering of water as Argya, strengthens the Sun,Hindu texts assert.

Study of Human actions and Universal Cycles.

Certain phenomena recur at regular intervals, often referred to as cycles. There are solar and lunar cycles in weather, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions. Other phenomena also show cycles that match lunar and solar cycles in biological, physical and socioeconomic phenomena. These studies reveal that there is a synchronicity shared by all of these phenomena so much that the solar-lunar linkage of FEM, including life, can be considered a single unit.

The lunar cycle and lunar phases are observable behaviorally and physiologically in numerous life forms. These effects occur in fish, shellfish, insects, mammals (including humans), and plants. For example, shellfish renew their shells, undergo regeneration and sexual activity in accord with the lunar tidal cycle. Guppy-fish have a color sensitivity on their back that is most responsive during Full Moon, and least responsive at New Moon. The Golden Hamster displays lunar rhythms in activity, and urinary volume and acidity. Lunar phases and plant growth are correlated for plants in the wilderness, as well as in the laboratory. In fact, two different lunar cycles affect all plant growth. Various life forms exhibit lunar periods in behavior and/or physiology. These lunar effects on life are components that sustain and partially control FEM’s dynamics.

Solar cycles of various lengths are also evident in many life forms and their activities. Consider some examples. Alternative cycles of sunspots reverse with a period of four years. Also having a cycle of four years are plankton yields in Lake Michigan, and the abundance of Arctic Fox, Canadian Fox, salmon, Snowy Owls, field mice, and Ruffed Grouse, as well as various socioeconomic activities. A 5.9-year solar cycle is also manifested in Grouse abundance, and various socioeconomic activities. The 9.11-year solar cycle is found in the abundance of Lynx and the Woodcock, agricultural production, and various industrial activities. Grasshopper and partridge abundance, and tree-ring growth display a cycle similar to the 9.3-year sunspot cycle. At least twenty industrial activities also have a cycle of 9.3 years. The 9.93-year sunspot cycle is apparent in Lynx, Ruffed Grouse and Waxwing abundance. Cycles of diverse lengths are also evident in human activities and physiology, other life forms, and physical processes on the Earth. In addition, the correlation between solar cycles and cycles in the biosphere makes it clear that there is an underlying common cause, and it bears the evidence of a unified whole involving life integrated with FEM, and its solar and lunar linkages.

We often think that humans are immune to such influences, but the evidence indicates otherwise.

Human aggression, conspicuous in national and international wars, occurs in cycles, as well. A study of civil war from 600 BC to AD 1941, and international battles from 600 BC to AD 1943 revealed cycles of 6, 9.66, 11.25, 12.33, 17.75, 22, 53.5, 143 and 164 years. Cycles of 5.98, 9.73, 11.26, 13.2, 17.2, 21.9, 29, 52.9, 59.8, 101 and 143.7 years were noted in a more recent study. For example, the 29-year cycle peaked in 1913, which was the beginning of World War I, again in 1942, during World War II’s most violent battles, and again during the escalation of the Vietnam War in 1971. The next peak is slated to be in the year 2000. Civil war also displays cycles, which are 130, 91, 62.9, 27.4, 18, 10 and 8.9 years.
The global political system shifts in cycles of 8.6, 17.4 and 34 years. Cycles in global economic transitions occur in cycles of 5.6, 9.4, 20.5 and 54 years, which often result from or contribute to human conflict. One of these studies took in the political and economic histories of 58 nations.
Instability in social change often occurs at the time the Sun’s center, the center of mass and Jupiter are in alignment. Such are the times when solar, earthquake, volcanic and climatic transitions peak, as well. When considering all of the cycles mentioned in this section, they are at or close to the lengths of solar and geomagnetic cycles.
Solar activity, geomagnetic activity, and weather are correlated to changes in blood pressure, blood composition, and the physical and chemical state of humans. It is very possible that these factors play a significant role in triggering political, international and civil conflict (i.e., wars, riots, etc.). Changes in human behavior are know to take place during periods of high or low solar activity, as well as during geomagnetic storms (also see sections 2.1 and 2.3). Solar and lunar effects are known to influence civil unrest, which can be triggered by air ionization due to particle flow along the Field lines of FEM. The cycles of national and international conflict noted above are at or close to the lengths of solar and lunar cycles.
Cycles in the economy are probably the best known and researched due to attempts at predicting market trends (i.e., to make money). More than two decades ago the following industrial and economic cycles were recognized: seven 4-year, eight 5.9-year, thirty-five 6-year, twenty-three 8-year, twenty 9-year, five 9.4-year, three 9.9-year, eight 12.6-year, two 16.67-year, four 17.3-year, two 17.7-year, twelve 18.3-year, four 22-year, and thirty 54-year cycles. All of these cycles, with the exception of the 54-year cycle, were recently reaffirmed a quarter century later (i.e., 54 years had not elapsed since the first study)……
Looking more deeply into cycles it becomes even more evident that what we do here on Earth has effects that go beyond the Earth. Many major physical forces on Earth are interrelated with those of the Sun. Other cycles that coincide include variations in the GNP, stock prices, interest rates, periods of general instability, economic turning points, animal populations, climate, geomagnetic storms, earthquakes, volcanic activity, changes in the length of day, and others. Cycles would not normally cluster unless they were related by cause and effect, or by a common cause. The cause is the human destruction of life, which in turn weakens the Fields, resulting in terrestrial, then solar, and finally, solar-induced terrestrial effects.

This interrelationship has been observed in a number of ways. One of the earliest cycle researchers comments on this: “When cycles of seemingly the same length are found on both the Sun and the Earth, the solar waves crest after the Earthly ones.” Putting that into a perspective of cause and effect, the conclusion would be that Earthly phenomena is the cause of the solar cycles.

This relationship is also apparent in the Gross National Product (GNP) and the Wholesale Price Index, both of which are a measure of the life destroyed in the manufacture of goods and the waste generated. A study compared these indexes over a time period from 1889 to 1978 with sunspot cycles, and disclosed the causal factor. In this article, “Sunspots and Cycles: A Test of Causation,” the authors state: “In an attempt to identify the limitation of exogeneity testing, we gathered data on a ‘classic’ question in economics. Is there a causal relationship between sunspots and the business cycle? On the basis of the evidence, we… are forced to conclude that the U.S. economy has a significant impact on the Sun, but that sunspots have no influence on the economy. We were, of course, more than a little surprised to the find that the U.S. economy has any influence on the Sun. However, as [others have] said so well, one ‘would have to be rather more pigheaded in order not to have the evidence change his views.’ We agree that identifying the linkages constitutes an important topic of future research.” [for a brief, partial discussion on this see the web page The Unity of the Sun, Earth and Moon].

The stock market similarly reflects the degree to which life is destroyed, and also displays a cycle. Sunspots have a cycle of 9.15 years, which is “exactly the length of the dominate cycle in the stock market.” Furthermore, when other cycles around this same length are examined the majority of biological, industrial and economic cycles peak first, then solar, and finally, biological, social-unrest and geophysical cycles affected by the solar cycles.

Included in the last phase of these interrelationships is the cycle apparent in the International War Battles Index, and the 11-year solar cycle. That is, we humans begin to destroy the very industries and urban centers in war that were destroying life to begin with. Not only does war follow, but geophysical events, such as earthquakes, floods, droughts, and so on increase, which also eliminate life-destroying urban-industrial centers. These relationships are particularly true for the dominant 11-year solar cycle. [for a brief, partial discussion on this see the web page In Defense of Nature — The History Nobody Told You About]. Other observations confirm these interrelationships. Just as there are differences in the activity of plants and animals at night, as compared to day, there are differences in chemical reactions (Piccardi Tests) during the night and day. A worldwide force affects both organic and inorganic compounds (i.e., colloids). Definite correlations exist between chemical reaction rates (precipitation curves), and the curve of the daily relative sunspot number. None of the meteorological factors can be said to be responsible. Furthermore, there are differences in these reactions according to latitude that are in accord with the latitude phenomena of FEM. These chemical reactions reflect solar activity in precipitation rates with sunspots peaking after the reaction times. They are also correlated with geomagnetic storms, sudden cosmic-ray bombardments, solar flares, and have an annual peak, like solar activity, at the March (vernal) equinox. Moreover, these reactions are evident in living things, which are a major component of the functioning of FEM (particularly as a bioelectrostatic generator).

This chemical-reaction effect is also apparent in living things. All life on Earth, even the simplest creatures, such as bacteria, display behavioral and physiological changes four days prior to magnetic disturbances on Earth that are later caused by solar activity. In turn, alternating electromagnetic fields, like those that accompany geomagnetic storms, are biologically active, changing animals (systolic) rhythms, bioelectricity, and blood dynamics.

  • Religion Rituals Hinduism Work

I have come across comments like,

‘For reaching God, Self Realization, it is enough if our heart is pure, there is no necessity of the rituals, Poojas, visiting temples’

‘Love for All is the central message of Religions and of Spirituality,if I love all, there is no need for following Religion’

‘Wearing Caste-mark on the forehead, taking bath before Pooja, following strict cumbersome procedures fo the Pooja, Are they necessary?

God is everywhere, why should I perform all these, they are nothing but expressions of hypocrisy’

I have recently received a comment,

I got your Comment on My Blog, So I came Here
Seeing your blog, I find it is Spiritually Inclined. So I asking some Questions I Have

Today Hinduism is full of Rituals. I feel that it is corruption of Hinduism. What do you say.
True Hindu should worship work, not conduct rituals. What do you think.”

Let me attempt to answer as I have been doing till now to my children and close friends.

It is alright and it sounds nice to say that “I know that God is everywhere and I treat everyone equally’

Is it an honest statement?( I am speaking out myself)?

    Do I treat everyone equally?

Do I love everyone and everything in the world?

Am I free from prejudices, anger, Lust for power, women, money?

    Do I forgive others?

    Am I helping others?

Is my heart pure enough not to feel jealous of others?

Do I place others before myself?

    Am I innocent?

Did/Do I not  hurt many in my life, both professional and personal?

Am I honest and follow what I say?

    My answer is NO.

So I am not qualified to be counted among those who can realize God by these methods.

    There is also this perception,

That if you do your Duty, there is no necessity of worshiping God.

    True.

Lord Krishna implies this in The Bhagavad Gita.

The confusion is what ‘work’ means’ though Krishna means Karma or Action’ which is different from work.

What is the Work we are talking about?

Going to office, 10-5, working in a software company or running a Business, where we earn?

    What do we do here?

We earn money to satisfy our senses.

We remain unsatisfied whatever we earn.

We remain loyal , honest to others in the work place so that our jobs, businesses are secure.

Where is the question of Altruism?

At the end of the day, after we do our life’s work, what does remain for us?

    Have we evolved Happier, Contented?

Have We answered our urge to know where We are, where were We and where do We go thither?

    Have I answered these questions?

Of what use this money, the result of my dedication to work to Me finally?

By saying Everything is Brahman, I am Brahman,I Love All does not make One Spiritually evolved.

Every one can not become a Ramana Maharishi by asking ‘Who Am I?

It is only by searching within oneself for answers and finding them, does one become a Jnani or a Realized Soul?

Rituals, procedures laid for them, Poojas, Dhana, Dharma, Neethi Sastras,Vedas , Puranas, Ithihasas, Yoga all these are disciplines to follow , are to enable us to reach that mental and spiritual maturity to Realize Self/God.

One in a Million can become a Ramana Maharishi,Kanchi Periyavar,Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.

Even these people had  followed a system of discipline.

Merely Working in an office, running a business does not constitute a Sadahana.

Ding even this has to have an attitude, disposition as explained in Karma Yoga.

We do not follow this even.

Till we become mature enough we need the Rituals.

You may choose your own from any from the numerous paths explained in Hinduism.

  • Speech Stages Gayathri Savitri Sarasvati Kesri Vidya

    Approaches to God are many.

As many individuals as many Paths.

For the approach to Godhead depends on one’s attitude and aptitude, Bhava.

Broadly speaking they have been classified as  The Path Of Knowledge(Gyana Yoga),Bhakti Yoga(Path Of Devotion),Karma Yoga( Path Of Action, and Raja Yoga(Through meditation and regulation of sense organs.

Under each are various sub paths.

Again there are different instruments of reaching this goal through these steps.

We have Tantra and Mantra Shastras.

Basing the Sound some systems of worship has been developed in Indian Philosophy/Hinduism.

One such is the Kesari Vidya.

This comes under the Mula vidya of Devi, Lalitha,

In Mula Vidya, The Devi is worshiped thus.

Gāyatri: Vedic Gāyatri, the primary Vidyā that one is initiated into, before the ŚrīVidyā mantras like Bāla or Pancadāsi.

(  I shall be posting more on this subject as I am still researching into this, so complex)

    Chanting is of three types.

1.Chanting aloud, this is considered to be lowest stage,Adhama

2.Chanting  where the Lips move, no sound emanates, this method is acceptable, Madhyama and

    3.Chanting in the Mind,Highly recommended,Uththamam.

    Chanting s a process of manipulating sounds,Subda.

When we speak we use the Sabda of the Universe and transform t into Speech with our inputs.

The Stages of Speech according to Kesri Vidya.

1.Sol-Speech, speaking as we do normally.

Animals do this through sounds while we do it with organized sound with a common meaning, language.

    2.Vaak.This is the unexpressed Speech.

Speech is formed in the Mind and then transformed in a Language.

This Speech which is yet to be spoken lies in the Tongue.

    This is called Vaak.

‘Srimadvakbhava kooda Swarupa Mukha Pankaja(Lalitha Sahasranama.

    Vaak lies underneath the Speech.

This is called the Bootha Vaaku.

Many a times we have some intention to speak our mind , knowing well that it would crate problems, we try to keep quiet; we fail to control, we speak out face the consequences and regret having spoken.

We say we cold not help speaking out.

This is the path of ‘Dhikbrama’ which is determined by his/her Karma.

When this speech comes from a Realized Soul it is called ‘Deva Vaaku’

Once it is kindled , Speech emanates.

We may observe this when we watch children attempting to speak.

They would struggle with sounds, choose a couple of them , mix them, produce the words, see our approval and choose such sounds that are approved by those around.

This Dormant Speech  Vak is controlled by Vakdevi/Savitri , a form of Goddess Sarasvati.

Gayathri is the Driving Force, Savitri is the Dormant Speech and Sarasvati , expressed Speech.

This is the reason we have  in the Sanshyavandan Aavaahava Mantra,,

Gayathreem Aavaahayami, Savithreem Aavaahayami, Sarsvatheem Aavaahayami’

The Third is The Inner Voice(Kural)

This is what we hear when we think of some thing in the Mind.

You would, if you observe carefully, whenever you start thinking/attempting to speak, you would notice contrary thoughts are heard in your mind,.

That is when you think of some thing, you have the image and a voice in your mind relating to the subject, both for and against.

Speech as we deliver emanates by manipulating the Prana by Sabda.

The process of  Realizing Godhead or Brahman by bringing forth the original Knowledge imbedded in us, lying dormant in our tongue is Kesri Vidya.

The next stage is Mounam, ‘Quietude’

More on this and Kesri Vidya follows.

  • Knowledge No Help In Salvation Bhaja Govindam Sankaracharya

Adi Sankaracharya,as Rajaji puts it in his introduction to MS rendering of The Bhaja Govindam, who drank the nectar of Knowledge as one wold a sip of water from one’s palm, extols the virtues of Bhakti in his famous song/sloka  Bhaja Govinda,(Repeat ‘Govinda’, a Name of Lord Vishnu)

Adi Shankaracharya,t he proponent of Advaita, Non  Dualism, is one who seems to advocate Gnana Yoga, The Path Of Knowledge.

    Bhaja Govindam
    Bhaja Govindam

He assigns a great importance to the understanding of The Reality, Gnana Yoga.

But Sankaracharaya, who is such an ardent protagonist of the Path of Knowledge, reverts to Bhakti in his Bhaja Govindam.

It is, as decreed in the scriptures,, rare to be born a Human being, where limited Freedom Of Choice is offered to realize Godhood.

Depending on one’s mental attitude and dispositions. various paths for realizing Godhood are proposed in Hinduism.

    They are,

Gnana Yoga, The Path of Knowledge,

Karma Yoga , The Path of Action,

Raja Yoga, The Path of Physical and Mental Disciple, and

Bhakti Yoga, The path of Surrender to God.

Vedic texts maintain that one requires God’s Blessings to think of God.

One needs His Anugraha to think of Him, unlike  in Purva Mimamsa.

    ‘அவன் அருளாலே அவன் தாள் வணங்கி ‘ Siva Puanam.

    भजगोविन्दं भजगोविन्दं गोविन्दं भजमूढमते . संप्राप्ते सन्निहिते काले नहि नहि रक्षति डुकृञ्करणे .. १..

    1 Seek Govinda, Seek Govinda,
    Seek Govinda, O Fool!
When the appointed times comes (death),
grammar rules surely will not save you.”

One may be well versed in Philosophy.

This, at best, can only satisfy the Intellectual curiosity.

May be in some, reinforce Faith.

But  a faith that needs reinforcement, is no faith at all.

And mind and Logic ‘ being what they are can change and argue both ways.

So one can never know or understand Reality or God.

One, can feel Him, Experience Him.

All the knowledge one possesses would be of no use to one as one lies Dying.

It is said that one’s Life flashes before him at that point of time and nothing more.

It is very rare that one remembers God when one is acute Physical agony.

Scriptures say one is reborn based one’s last thoughts.

In tune with this, it is better to remember God as frequently as possible with the hope that we would remember His Name as we lie dying, at least by force of Habit.

In  Tamil there is a Line,

    -அப்போதைக்கிப்போதே சொல்லி வைத்தேன்,,

    என்னை ஆண்டருள்வாய்  ‘நாராயணா ‘

‘I have called out your name in advance,

    Please save me Narayana’

It is very significant to note that Adi Shankaracharya uses the name ‘Govinda’

Not any other name of Vishnu or Krishna.

Govinda is one of the Names of Vishnu.

Lord Krishna was anointed as the King by  Indra, as King of Cattle.

This, Vishnu Purana says, is the name which is very dear to lord Naranyana, , the other name being ‘

Om Namo Bhagavathe Vasu Devaya’ The Dwadasa Nama of Vishnu(12 Letters).

One may note that in the Apara Karma, including Sraradha, Govinda is used, even if  one is a worshiper of Lord Siva: those who worship Vishnu use Narayan for auspicious occasions only.

The reason is Lord Govinda is the One who is responsible for Life after death.

Sankara uses the term ‘Samprapthe’, the  good remnants of impressions of Life.

One’s death  is not in one’s hands,

No body knows how or where one will die.

The impressions of the good deeds determine the manner and the time of one’s death.

Under these circumstances, one’knowledge is useless.

Only Govinda’s name alone will help.

    (Literal translation is ,

Worship Govinda, worship Govinda, worship Govinda, Oh fool ! Rules of grammar will not save you at the time of your death.

In Vedanga all Sciences are taught, including Linguistics, Logic(Tharka)Chandas(Meters) Niruktha(How words are combined)

Even such analysis will not help at the time of death)
