Thanks to the Fermi Large Area (LAT) telescope, we can now ‘see’ gamma rays (high frequency electromagnetic waves) in the universe. Gamma rays are comprised of photons (elementary particles), each of which have their own energy and frequency.

The higher the energy, the higher the frequency. By measuring their frequency, we can convert rays into musical notes.

Gamma ray bursts are some of the most powerful explosions in the universe

. A particularly explosive number back in 2008, the GRB 080916C, was captured by the LAT and is the basis for the musical track. During the brightest part of the explosion, the LAT detected 100s of gamma rays from the extremely-distant explosion. NASA converted the data to music and slowed the rates down by a factor of 5x to hear the individual gamma rays better

. Each was then represented by a different instrument (harp, piano etc) and along with the accompanying animation, illustrate the explosions journey.

    Media Ownership Details India

    Survey On Indian Paid Media.

That “paid news” is a phenomenon that is deleterious to the credibility and independence of the media itself needs to be emphasized. Edelman, an independent public relations firm, in its 2010 Trust Barometer Survey (conducted in 22 countries worldwide, including India and six other countries in the Asia-Pacific region) stated that the Indian media has been losing its credibility and trust among the people. The study, which sampled 1,575 people in the 25-64 age group and 200 opinion leaders in India, noticed a sharp drop in trust over the past two years in television news in India. However, newspapers are ranked higher than other media in terms of credible news with people trusting newspapers more than any other medium: 38 per cent of the Indians polled trusted radio and television, while 40 per cent trusted news in newspapers. Over the past two years, trust in television news dropped sharply from 61 per cent to 36 per cent, that of business magazines has gone down from 72 per cent to 47 per cent, and that of newspapers has gone down from 61 per cent to 40 per cent. Trust in the media in India as a whole declined by 7 per cent (from 65 per cent in 2009 to 58 per cent in 2010). On the other hand, China has seen the trust in media go up from 59 per cent in 2009 to 63 per cent in 2010. However, in terms of overall trusted institutions in India, media has performed better than the government as an institution. Sixty-seven per cent of Indians trust business as an institution, followed by the Indian media in the second position, with 58 per cent Indians trusting it. Non-government organizations (NGOs) and the government are placed in third and fourth positions, respectively

From BBC.-British Media is no better.

India’s media is one of the nation’s great glories, with 250 radio stations, 850 TV channels and 93,000 registered newspapers and magazines. It is one of the few countries in the world where newspaper readership is growing.

But just how free is India’s free press? Shilpa Kannan investigates the growing concern over ‘paid media’, in which powerful business and political interests ensure they get favourable coverage. This takes many forms. Advertising content in newspapers is reprinted as straight news: politicians send the text of articles they want published directly to news outlets and pay cash fees for the privilege: or businessmen build cosy connections with media outlets. It is widely believed that many media outlets have ‘rate cards’, which outline the fees for positive coverage. Conflicts of interest abound: freelance journalists are frequently given fees for attracting advertising as well as reporting the news.

There have been over 1,400 cases where the Election Commission detected alleged paid news in polls in 17 states over the last four years. Now the Indian parliament has been considering legislation which will outlaw the practice – although detecting and proving it is likely to be tough.

Shilpa asks if the phenomenon is likely to be a threat to India’s democracy.:

“Nira Radia, a political and business lobbyist, was found to be part of a wide nexus among politicians, businessmen and journalists through which news was manipulated. Names of senior and celebrated journalists Barkha Dutt, Prabhu Chawla and Vir Sanghvi did crop up in this controversy but with media ethics of maintaining high journalistic standards lying in shreds, all of them continue to hold high positions even as the public trust in a partisan media erodes fast. (Tapes are available under ‘Radia Tapes in this site, more on this under Corruption as well)

    Paid Newspapers.

The Tribune has always been a centrist newspaper covering the regions of North India such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and J&K.

The Pioneer is the second oldest English newspaper to be printed in India. It has always shown a pro-BJP, right wing.

The statesman has always been a left wing, anti-establishment newspaper.

The Hindu too has been open about its ideologies and doesn’t shy away from being declared an organized left newspaper

    .

While The Indian Express now supports congress, The New Indian Express continues to support NDA and right wing ideologies.

    Hindustan Times.

This newspaper is probably the worst case of partisan media. It can easily be mistaken for a Congress published newspaper as it has become nothing but a mouthpiece for Congress propaganda.

The Times of India is the leading English language newspaper in India. It tries to present an image of being a nationalist newspaper but has not been able to shed it bias towards the UPA government, now and then.

The Time group, whc Iincludes Timesnow News Cahnnel will go all ou against every one except Sonia Gandhi and will clam up even against speaking her name.

  • New World Map US With 38 States

The accepted Mercator World map is wrong and the US has 38 States!

While the former is erroneous , the latter is due to the fact that the US States are ‘chopped beyond Recognition!”

    Story:

If George Etzel Pearcy had his way, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s famous song would have been called “Sweet Home Talladego.” In 1973, the California State University geography professor suggested that the U.S. should redraw its antiquated state boundaries and narrow the overall number of states to a mere thirty-eight.

Pearcy’s proposed state lines were drawn in less-populated areas, isolating large cities and reducing their number within each state. He argued that if there were fewer cities vying for a state’s tax dollars, more money would be available for projects that would benefit all citizens.

Because the current states were being chopped up beyond recognition, part of his plan included renaming the new states by referencing natural geologic features or the region’s cultural history.

    Mercator map.

In 1973, Arno Peters, a German filmmaker and journalist, called a press conference to denounce the widely accepted map of the world known as the “Mercator Map” (above).Peters’ position was that the Mercator Projection—a cylindrical projection first developed in 1569 by Flemish cartographer Gerardus Mercator—was not only inaccurate, but downright racist. Peters pointed out that the Mercator map has a distortion in the northern hemisphere, making North American and Eurasian countries appear much larger than they actually are. For example, Greenland and Africa are shown as roughly the same size, although in reality Africa is about fourteen times larger. In contrast, the regions along the equator—Africa, India, and South America, to name a few—appear smaller, especially when seen next to the distorted northern half of the map. It was Peters’ belief that this error led many in the developed world to ignore the struggles of the larger, poorer nations near the equator.

Of course Peters had a suggestion on how to fix this problem—his own map. The Peters Projection map, which claimed to show the world in a more accurate, equal-area fashio

This is what Sri Lanka has done pre and post Resolution on Genocide, the killing of the Tamils  in Lanka.

Valueless ,Inhuman ,Spineless and cowardly act

“Sri Lanka’s president ordered the release on Friday of 98 Indian fishermen detained for poaching as a “goodwill gesture” after New Delhi abstained in a vote on a U.N. resolution that approved an international inquiry into alleged war crimes on the island.

India, Sri Lanka’s largest trade partner, backed two prior resolutions, but on Thursday unexpectedly took a neutral stand on the demand for a probe into actions by both Sri Lankan state forces and Tamil rebels during the 26-year conflict that ended in 2009.

“The president ordered the release of all Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture,” Mohan Samaranayaka, a spokesman for President Mahinda Rajapaksa, told Reuters.

A total of 23 states voted in favour of the U.S.-led resolution, 12 against and 12 abstained. Among those who voted against were China and Pakistan, while India withheld its vote over concerns that the investigation would be “intrusive”.”

  • Shakti Peeta Head In Pakistan Bibi Nani Dadhichi Mantra

Despite the politicians having divided India, none can severe the Religious bond between India and Pakistan.

One of the 52 Shakti Peetas is in  Hinglaj, Balochistan province about 250 km north of Karachi.

    The Teertha.

An important stop during the pilgrimage is the mud volcano called ‘Chandrakup’ (Bengali: চন্দ্রকূপ, literally ‘Moon Well’), mainland Asia‘s largest mud volcano.

It is considered holy and is addressed as ‘Baba Chandrakup'(literally Father Moonwell).

The volcano is filled with mud, instead of magma, hence the term “mud volcano”.

It is considered to be the abode of demigod Babhaknath. It is one of the few sites of active volcanic activity in the Asian mainland.

The mud is semi fluid and sometimes it spills over and aggregates and cools into hillocks which surround the site.

There are altogether 18 mud volcanoes in the region.

There is another such mud volcano in Andaman Islands, India

“It is considered as one of the famous and largest TEERATHS Pilgrimage of Subcontinent.

It is held in great veneration by both Hindus and Muslims. It is dedicated to Hinglaj Devi, the Goddess of Fate, Muslims call it Bibi Nani or simply

    Nani.

In “Nani” there is a survival of ancient Goddess “Nanaia”, whose Semitic name is “Anhita”. Hinglaj Devi alongwith another Devi called “Kurukullh” was

once upon a time, universally worshipped. Hingula means “cinnabar”, largely used as materia medica in ancient India.

Since “Hingula” cures snake bites and eliminates all types of poisoning, it came to be identified with healing of all sorts of diseases.

Despite the independence and the increasing Islamic stance of the Pakistani Government and society, Hinglaj has survived and is in fact revered by

local Muslims who call it ‘Nani ki Mandir’.

Muslims offer red or saffron clothes, incense, candles and a sweet preparation called ‘Sirini’ to the deity[citation needed].

The Muslims protected sites like Hinglaj which are the last vestiges of the Hindu society which once straddled the area.

Hingula means cinnabar (HgS Mercuric Sulphide). It was used in ancient India to cure snakebite and other poisonings and is still employed in

    traditional medicine.

The Goddess Hingula is thus believed to possess powers which can cure poisoning and other diseases.

The Muslim name ‘Nani’ is an abbreviation of the name of the ancient Goddess “Nanaia“, whose Persian name is “Anahita“.

    The Dadhichi Mantra.

Dadhici was the Sage , who, out of His Backbone made made the Vajrayutha and gifted it to Indra, the Chief of the Devas.

The mantra or incantation for Devi Hinglaj is attributed to Saint Dadhichi, an important saint in Hindu theology. The mantra is :

    ॐ हिंगुले परमहिंगुले अमृतरूपिणि तनुशक्ति

    मनः शिवे श्री हिंगुलाय नमः स्वाहा

OM HINGULE PARAM HINGULE AMRUTRUPINI TANU SHAKTI

MANAH SHIVE SHREE HINGULAI NAMAH SWAHA

Translation : “Oh Hingula Devi, she who holds nectar in her self and is power incarnate.

She who is one with Lord Shiva, to her we pay our respects and make this offering (swaha).”

    Yet another incarnation:

    ब्रह्मरंध्रम् हिंगुलायाम् भैरवो भीमलोचन: |

    कोट्टरी सा महामाया त्रिगुणा या दिगम्बरी ||

    BRAHMARANDHRAM HINGULAAYAAM BHAIRAVO VIMALOCHANAH

KOTTARI SAA MAHAAMAAYAA TRIGUNAA YAA DIGAMVARI

Translation : “Mahaamaayaa (Queen of Illusions) who represents the supreme virtue by reigning over all three virtues, has Bhimalochana as her

Bhairava, and derides the worldly trappings by dancing naked, resides in this cave of Hingula that enshrines her sacred head.”

    Legend:

    1. During the Treata Yuga, in the days of PARUSHURAM AVATAR, Rishi Dadechi narrated this story.

In the TATARI MONGOL CLAN there lived a king named VICHATAR. He had two sons HINGOL and SUNDER. They belonged to Suria Dynasty of Kshtrya

class. They were brave but cruel and lived luxurious lives.

Their empire was adjacent to China. The people who lived in these countries belonged to Chandra Dynasty of Kshtrya Class and were followers of LORD

    SHIVA.

Prince sunder attacked the neighbouring countries and killed thousands of people and looted gold ornaments and demanded royalties from them.

The people then prayed to Lord SHIVA to save them from the cruel prince by fulfilling their prayers and request , Lord SHIVA granted a boon where GANESH DEVA killed the demon prince Sunder in three days.

After the death of Prince Sunder, his brother Hingola became furious and swore to take avenge his brother’s death.

He underwent penance and by his austerity for years he received the boon that no living being in the three worlds could kill him with any sort of weapon and his death will only occur at a place where Sunlight does not penetrate.

He thereafter defeated other kings, extended his reign with terror and cruelty.

He referred to himself as HINGOL DEVA.

People became very sick and tired in his reign and they performed great Yagna Hawan in their Devi Mata Temple in order to get rid of HIngol, the King.

Devi Mata appeared and promised to kill Hingol. Hingol came in SATA DEEP, presently located in Balochistan and went inside a dark cave where Devi

Mata with her wooden weapon TRISHUL killed him.

In his last moments of life hingol prayed to Devi Mata that in future this place may be called after his name as HINGAL TEERATH and so the place came

    to be known.

    2. According to another story in the PURAN , once SATI the consort of LORD SHIVA and the daughter of King Daksha was annoyed with her father for

not inviting LORD SHIVA in the ceremony of Yagna.

She jumped to in Agni Havan Kunda and burnt herself. LORD SHIVA then became furious and came and took the dead body of SATI and started

roaming in all the dishas and there was danger created all over the world.

Hence LORD VISHNU cut the body of SATI in pieces with his Sudarshan Chakra in order to cool down LORD SHIVA’s anger.

The pieces of SATI’S body fell at differant places; the head with its Hingul (Sindhoor, Vermillion) fell at this place on the Kunraj hills and it was named as

HingulParvat and the Peeth was known as Shri Hinglaj Mata Asthan.

This Peeth is considered supreme because Sati’s head had fallen here.

    How To Reach:

It is about 170 miles 250 KM from Karachi. One has to go by road on main Karachi-Quetta Highway (RCD) up to zero point for about 75 miles.

Then by road towards west through Lyari town and then to Signal fauji camp stop, crossing Aghore River.

Then through Goongi River and last stop to “Asha Pura” sarai (IN)
