Reasons for retaining the Sun Film in cars are anything but logical and has no concern for safety for the Public at large.
The move to have the Sun Films in-car was initiated because of the necessity to monitor the terrorist activity and put a check on anti social elements.
Remember the case in Bangalore about a year ago when an IT professional was abducted by a professional gang to relieve him of his valuables?
The Inspector passing through , saw a man struggling ,chased the car and saved the victim.
In how many instances have we noticed terrorists operating from a car and leaving the car at the proposed scene of attack?
All these cars had Sun control films.
Do we not know prostitution is conducted(physical act) in a car?
In fact a notorious pimp was nabbed in Chennai when the Police , by chance interrupted a car and it led to his arrest ans eventual filing of the case.
He was found to be owning 40 Cars for on the spot prostitution!
Reasons for the continuation of Sun films are.
1.Valuables left in the car, especially mobiles and jewellery will be visible and the chances of their being stolen are high!
So a car will not be broken into of you do have a sun film!
Mobile is to be carried on hand, that is why it is called mobile.
If people are careless enough to leave their valuables in the car , well, they deserve to lose it.
Car is for mobility and it is not a mobile home.
Car Companies have Sun Films as accessories and they will incur loss by the move.
Can any thing be more silly than this!
Tomorrow they may fix a Bar shelf in the car , so you will allow drinking while driving.
BMTC shall incur loss for they also have fixed Sun film.
The same answer to them .
Public safety is more important thanl privacy when you move in Public.
“BANGALORE: Be just a little careful the next time you drop your high-value mobile on the dashboard, or even change your socks or touch up your lipstick: with sun film being stripped off your car windows, your privacy is definitely gone. Neither is safety guaranteed.
No film, screens or curtains, police have ruled. “The point of not having sun film is to let enough light enter the vehicle and increase visibility. How can we allow curtains?” asked MA Saleem, additional commissioner of police (traffic).
Transport department officials, too, agree that the Supreme Court has banned the use of screens and curtains which block out light. But they said the rule does not ban curtains.
While Section 100 of the Central Motor Vehicles Act 1989 also does not ban the use of curtains for car windows, the apex court has made it clear that it cannot be allowed, claimed Saleem and added: “We are following the SC diktat.” Rule 100 of the Act stipulates 70% visibility for front and back windscreens and 50% for windows. Both traffic police and Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) are empowered to inspect your vehicle and penalize you. The deadline to remove sun film was extended to June 5.
However, high-end cars of companies like Honda, Ford, Toyota, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Jaguar are exempt as they come with factory-fitted tinted glasses, and fall under the category of Original Equipment Manufacturer. The apex court order says the glass should be in the condition it was when delivered by the maker. Only owners of India-made vehicles, who have added tints to windows after purchasing their vehicles, will have to remove them.
Safety is also at stake. “My wife’s wallet was stolen from the vehicle while the traffic cop was removing the sun film from her car windows in broad daylight, in the presence of the cop. It has its own demerits,” said a commuter.
FINES COLLECTED
As on Sunday, RTOs had collected more than Rs 60,000 in fines. “We booked 600 cars till Sunday and most of them are either first- or second-time offenders. Presently about 60% of cars in the city have removed sun film,” said a senior transport department official.
