  • Rig Vedic Women Sexually more Confident Than Men No Dowry Sati

We trumpet that women of the present are the most liberated in the annals of history. Though they are yet to get their due in the society, they definitely have more Rights and freedom including sexual.Well, this is what is being propagated especially when one decides to decry Hinduism, Sanatan Dharm. It is fancy and a certificate of progressiveness and Liberalism to portray Hinduism as one of the most backward religions. James Stuart Mill, father of John Stuart Mill, the philosopher and mathematician, wrote the Fist History of India from England, without ever visiting India, begins the book with , ‘Hinduism, a religion steeply mired in Superstition and barbaric practices’..( The words I have used may not be exact. Please read my article on The Fist History of India for details’)

Status of Women , Vedic Period.

Our own breed of historians took the cue and had pilloried Hinduism and it’s practices starting from Hinduism, sanskaras, metaphysics ….and of course Treatment of Women. They would have you believe that in ancient India women were treated as chattel, society was totally patriarchal, women had no claim to property, can not remarry, were not allowed to read Vedas, should not recite mantras…

I had written earlier that women were Rishis, studied Vedas ,composed Veda sutras. Women had Upanayan ceremony conducted for them to initiate them into study of Vedas. They were allowed to choose their partners. They had swamvars conducted to choose their husbands.( There were five types of Marriages according to Shastras and seven types of Marriages according to Tamil culture.)Women were called Rishikas if they remained ascetics, and Gruhni or Gruhalakshmi.Gruhni means one who is Home, Head of Home,Gruhalakshmi means one who is Wealth of House. Tamil ,an ancient language of India calls a married women as இல்லாள்,One who rules the home.A man , according to shastras ceases to have the right to perform any Vedic karma if his wife had expired. He is entitled to perform only Sandhya Vandhana and limited anushtanas. He can not give away his children in marriage ( in Vedic Marriage) nor can he perform final rites fot the deceased.

Women in the Rigveda appear disproportionately as speakers in dialogue hymns, both as mythical or divine Indrani, Apsaras Urvasi, or Yami, as well as Apāla Ātreyī (RV 8.91), Godhā (RV 10.134.6), Ghoṣā Kākṣīvatī (RV 10.39.40), Romaśā (RV 1.126.7), Lopāmudrā (RV 1.179.1–2), Viśvavārā Ātreyī (RV 5.28), Śacī Paulomī (RV 10.159), Śaśvatī Āṅgirasī (RV 8.1.34). The women of the Rigveda are quite outspoken and appear more sexually confident than men, in the text.*1 Elaborate and aesthetic hymns on wedding suggest rites of passage had developed during the Rigvedic period.*1 There is little evidence of dowry and no evidence of sati in it or related Vedic texts.#2

  • ‘India Hates Women’ Is It? Don’t Talk Shop.

I came across a post titled  ‘Being Female in India:A Hate Story’  more or less a Mayo’s Report on India.

As usual we do not need foreigners to misinterpret India , we Indians are adept at it.

Yes , it is written by an Indian where you find sweeping statements on India and Indian women, probably to show off as an intellectual.

Let me , at the out set state I am an out right critic of rape and advocate stringent punishment for the rapists.(read my blogs)

What are the statements made by the author?

    Teen Pregnancy.

As expected the source is from Wall Street Journal which again is based on a UN report on Teen Pregnancy.

If Statistics can be twisted and quoted out of context , this is it.

The figures are for Human Development Index and under Women are these statistics.

It mentions Teenage pregnancy along with Malnutrition, Early marriage and forced marriage at an early age for girls.

Malnutrition is not selective for Girl child it is generic to both the Sex

Early marriage is definitely is on the wane and as to forced marriage,in fact the forced marriage often emanates from the girls/boys concerned now, look at boys and girls eloping when they are studying in X standard.( Forced marriages do exist albeit Ina small way as compared to the population and Literacy)

    Teenage pregnancy;

The data does not provide an insight into how many rapes are due to Teen pregnancy .

All teen pregnancies are not due to rape.

That a woman can call even a consenting sexual act a Rape latter is some thing else!

    So much for these Statistics.

    Now to India’s ‘Rape’

    Incidence of Rape.
    Rape Tally,India

    Rape Statistics World.
Assuming parity in definition, India on a population that is 400% larger has a rape incident ratio which are 24% of US. | Graphic source – hindustan times.com; Hindustan Times e-Paper dated 2012-12-23 accessed at 17-29-59.

Out goes your argument that India Tops the Rape List!

    ‘We abort Millions of fetuses’

The source for the writer in The telegraph article.

Tell me how many of these are from rape?

Look at this from the same article.

The mean number of children per Indian woman fell from 3.8 in 1990 to 2.6 in 2008.

Selective abortion of female fetuses accounts for two to four per cent of female pregnancies in India, roughly 300,000 to 600,000 per year out of 13.3 to 13.7 million carrying a girl in 2010, the study found.

From 2001 to 2011, the practice increased at a rate of 170 per cent, slowing from 260 per cent over the previous decade.

In the study, researchers led by Prabhat Jha of the Centre for Global Health at the University of Toronto, analysed census data from 2011 and earlier.’

    Figures speak.

Single woman. Quoted from WSJ. No body eyes a Single woman with suspicion ,in fact . at least in the South we try to take care of her as

    in loco parentis.

Only when male visitors stay up late in the night in her room or drinking and partying goes on we do object it.

Reference has been made to Dowry. Please tell us whether it is the Boy, The father of the Boy or the Mother of the Boy demands the

    Dowry.

How many female Fetuses are aborted by the commands of women?

No doubt Rape is a heinous crime and has to be eradicated.

It does not mean that all men are ogres and Rapists.

Shall I talk of Female rapists? ( especially at the work place)

The article is curiously silent about the provocation of women in scantiest of Clothes.

On top of it there is a placard showing .

    Placard on Rape.
    Placard against Rape.

Unfortunately the advice is given only to protect two men and not to encourage Rapists.

Sex is a primordial urge;don’t incite it by sexiest dresses(revealing) or statements like ‘I want to look sexy.

If women continue finding fault only with men there is no solution, look at your self as well .

Remember Your Father, Brothers, Husband and Sons are all…….MEN.

India hates women. It is with this bald fact that I wish to begin—and end—my response to the horrific crime that occurred this week in Delhi, the rape, by multiple perpetrators, of a young woman on public transport in our capital city. She was raped by a gang of men, and she and her companion were both severely beaten, stripped naked and thrown from the bus in which they had been travelling. The young woman, to whom this response is dedicated, now lies fighting for her life, her uterus and intestines ruptured from the brutal attack, in a Delhi hospital.

If any Indian claims to be surprised by this crime and that Indian is a mentally competent, responsible adult, then he or she is lying. There are, of course, other, gentler names—ignorance, hypocrisy, denial. But let us call a spade a spade. Anyone who has experienced life growing up in India, who can claim the minimum level of education and awareness that should come with reading the newspapers, with a high school diploma or by simply keeping one’s eyes open, knows about India’s hatred for women. If he or she says otherwise, that assertion is false. In other words, he or she lies. And it is in those lies of ours, in that denial that persists in spite of India’s shameful record asone of the most misogynistic countries in the world—it is those lies that beat up and raped that young woman, that sent her crushed and bleeding, torn and broken inside and out, to that hospital where she lies now in her agony. Our lies made the attack possible, created a space for it to happen.
