  • Indiscipline,Fights,Mole in Pakistan 2011 World Cup Team

With out all this, it is not a Pakistani Team.

    Immensely talented ,it is wasted.

    Story:

Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net ; a prominent member of the World Cup squad on the assurance of anonymity disclosed how disciplinary measures were only enforced on some players whilst other players got away with the same “offence”. In addition the squad member added that suggestions at team meetings were ignored and pleas to give Shoaib Akhtar a suitable send off following his retirement were ignored. Also one of the player’s in the squad was basically a mole for the team management given the responsibility of reporting back to the team management on any discussions held by the players or any comments made by the squad members.

Waqar Younis also comes under a scathing attack for failing to read wickets and his emphasis on the bowlers rather than working with the batsmen. Waqar’s position as head coach will once again come under the scanner after a disappointing performance against India in Mohali.

“There seemed to be very little organisation of the practice sessions and more often than not, the batsmen were neglected and not given enough time for net practice. Also Waqar struggled to read the nature of the wickets and generally misread the type of wicket.”

Shoaib Akhtar was a virtual spectator throughout the tournament and his final game came against New Zealand where he was smashed around the park by Ross Taylor. The squad member described to PakPassion that “some squad members requested and pleaded with the team management to allow Akhtar a decent farewell and to let him just lead the team out against India at Mohali, but our pleas were ignored. Before we walked out on the field at Mohali, a number of us hugged Shoaib who was very emotional.”

“At the team meeting prior to the semi final a number of us suggested that Shoaib be included in the side, but once again the requests were ignored. One member of the selection committee was not keen on dropping one of the players despite that individual’s poor form, and instead was talking about either dropping Wahab for Shoaib, or dropping one of the batsmen. In the end the requests fell on deaf ears as Shoaib was left out.”

The squad member added that one of the players in the squad was a mole for the team management and as ludicrous as it sounds, basically an informant for the team management.

“It became apparent as the World Cup progressed that one of the players was a mole for the team management and was reporting back on anything that was discussed away from team meetings.”

“We had no problem with that as nothing bad was being said by us, but the problem was that the mole was putting his own spin on things just to get on the right side of the team management. As you can imagine, this caused a lot of resentment and bad feeling within the squad.”

“ Disciplinary measures had been laid out for everyone and were clear” added the squad member. “However the discipline only seemed to be in force for some players, whilst others got away with doing whatever they wanted. It seemed that the management was turning a blind eye to indiscipline from some players, but coming down hard on others. Some of us complained to the management but again the complaints fell on deaf ears.”

The squad member also added to PakPassion that “there were moves behind the scenes to try and remove batting coach Shahid Aslam as he was not part of any clique and replace him with Ijaz Ahmed. In addition Inzamam ul Haq is trying to manoeuvre a role as the batting coach in the foreseeable future.”

When asked if there would be any attempt to go to the PCB Management regarding the aforementioned events, the squad member stated that “most of the squad were reluctant to approach the PCB as they felt that no action would be taken.”

“Unfortunately all was not well during the World Cup and what people see on television of a harmonious squad and the word unity being stated again and again was far from the truth, there was a lot of bad language used from some towards some of the players and there was also some ill feeling involving the man of the match awards which in my view was petty and unnecessary.”
