It can happen only in India.

It does not matter whether the leader in alive or Dead.

In Tamil Nadu , one will find the statues of EVR Annadurai, MGR most prominently.

You will find at least one Gandhi Road/Nagar, Anna Road/Nagar,MGR Nagar/Road.

And there are pockets with the DMK’s name( who is alive and kicking vigorously)

Not to be outdone, the sycophants in the Government of India had beaten the Dravidian Parties to the pulp!

By naming 449 Central Government projects with Gandhi, Nehru Family Name.

At least 25% of Central schemes are named after late PM Rajiv Gandhi. Planning Commission data suggests that government runs 58 schemes named after eminent people, MoS for Planning Ashwani Kumar said in a written reply to Lok Sabha. Of these, 16 schemes bear Gandhi’s name like Rajiv Awaas Yojana, Rajiv Gandhi Udyami Mitra Yojana, Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Shashaktikaran Abhiyan, Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowships for ST students etc.(Times of india-10 May, 2012)

It transpires that there are over 450 schemes in all!

This despite a dissenting note by the Cabinet Secretary’s Note.

New Delhi Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrashekhar has written to all the ministers regarding usage of names of prominent leaders in developmental programmes. Following is what the letter talks about.

    Dear Minister

As you are aware that number of programmes under execution in the country are named after
leaders particularly Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, the former Prime Ministers.

The practice has become widespread and indiscriminate. This reduces the value of identifying programmes with national figures particularly as implementation and impact of many of these programmes is not always as ought to be. As such many of them do not merit such association.

I have, therefore, been directed to convey that in the light of what is stated above there is need to be sparing and selective in associating names of national leaders with such programmes to prevent proliferation of such nomenclature.

    With regards,
    KM Chandrasekhar
    Cabinet Secretary”

    Congres Reply.

rom a crèche for working mothers, to rural electrification, to subsidised housing, there are about a dozen Central government run schemes named after Indira and Rajiv.

But if one takes into account welfare schemes run by the state governments, the figure is many times over.

In August 2009, an RTI application revealed more 450 government projects and schemes are named after the Gandhi-Nehru family.

The Congress, however, defended naming projects after the Gandhi-Nehru family.

“If you at look at history, from 1946 to 1964, Pandit Nehru was the Prime Minister. Again from 1966 to 1984, Mrs Indira Gandhi was the PM. She was succeeded by Rajiv Gandhi, and all of them have contributed to nation building. Yes, their names should be associated with projects that have gravitas,” said Manish Tiwari, Congress Spokesperson.

Apart from an element of sycophancy, there’s perhaps also some politics in naming the developmental projects after Indira and Rajiv Gandhi. Many of the centrally sponsored schemes are actually implemented by the state governments. If these schemes do well, state governments want to take the credit. So by naming after a Congress leader, the Centre wants it known, it was a Congress government which first thought of such a scheme.”

Well, what about Lalbahadur Shastri,Chandrasekhar,IK Gujral,Deve Gowda, Vajpayee and the like?

In an interview to Times Now, 2G scam main accused A Raja said that the UPA government had let him down. Speaking to the channel he said that there is no evidence against him. Instead he attacked the PM and said that Manmohan Singh was silent and did not accept the PMO recommendations. “It must be fair to say that issues enumerated by the CBI and CAG were not presented by the government in front of appropriate forums,” Raja said. When asked whether Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram should be questioned in the case, Raja said that it was upto the CBI to question them. “The CBI should decided who should be called and who should not be called for questioning in the 2G scam case,” he said. Raja also said that there was a parallel case which was not taken up by the CBI or the CAG. “Unsigned note was given to PM by telecom corporates regarding spectrum auction and how subscriber criteria can be devised,” he said. The report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, which was tabled in Parliament Tuesday, raised serious concerns over the scheme after it found lapses and errors in 22% of the 90,576 accounts it audited.

The audit body also alleged that in 2,824 cases there was evidence of tampering and alteration of records, while in 4,826 cases farmers weren’t given due benefits.

A majority of India‘s farmers own small holdings and take bank loans to buy fertilizers and machinery during the planting season. However, as more than 60% of the lands is rain-fed, erratic monsoons often lead to crop failure, forcing farmers to default on loans.

The government launched an agricultural debt waiver and debt relief scheme in 2008 to address farmers’ difficulties in repaying loans on time. It then estimated that about 40 million farmers would benefit from the scheme. In the last four financial years, the government has waived more than 520 billion rupees ($9.5 billion).

Many economists and agricultural analysts had criticized the scheme, saying it was merely a populist move by the United Progressive Alliance government to attract voters ahead of the 2009 general elections.”

  • DL F, Robert Vadra, BJP- I

On Sunday 8 October 2012, in ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ by Karan Thapar in CNN IBN News Channel interviewed Kejriwal on the question of moral propriety of Kejriwal in raising the issue of Robert Vadra without giving Robert the opportunity of defending himself ,that too after getting this information(which is available for the Public from the reistrar of Companies) from an article published in the Economic Times in March last year.

Karan Thapar’s moral high ground is laudable.

But the point  by Kejriwal that how else does one expect one’s answer when such a major scam is reported in the Media long back ,which no other Media picked up(incidentally Hindustan Times’ expose on Thorium theft remains unpicked by Media till date-I posted details  in my blog), is well taken.

On the other hand Kejriwal’s silence to why he raised a hue and cry when corruption charges were leveled against Shanti Bhushan, si deafening.

You should have a level field for play.

Well, Kejriwal has become a Politician now and we can not expect any thing more from him than double talk.

Now coming to the issue ‘How exactly is DLF is linked to Robert Vadra and did the Media not follow up ET story?

    RobertVadra_20110314.jpg
    Robert Vadra’s Companies.

New Delhi-based entrepreneur Robert Vadra, married into the country ‘s most powerful family, has made a quiet and relatively unheralded entry into the real estate business, including a partnership with DLF Ltd, India ‘s largest realty firm. Vadra, the son-in-law of the ruling United Progressive Alliance coalition chairperson Sonia Gandhi, has stayed away from electoral politics, maintaining that he wants to be known as a businessman,

In interviews, he has said that his focus is on Artex, a small company specialising in jewellery and handicraft exports. That seems to be changing as 42-year-old Vadra, known for his punishing fitness regime and love for fast bikes, has sought to scale up and diversify his business activities since 2008, acquiring tracts of land in Haryana and Rajasthan, a 50% stake in a leading business hotel in Delhi, and attempting an entry into the business of chartering aircraft. Regulatory filings available in the public domain and reviewed by ET reporters reveal the changing graph of Vadra ‘sbusiness interests. These include wide-ranging transactions with the DLF Group.

Several of his companies have received loans, some unsecured, from DLF group companies, including the Bombay Stock Exchange-listed flagship DLF Ltd.

A JOINT VENTURE AND SOME LOANS

Sky Light Hospitality Pvt Ltd, a company wholly owned by Vadra and his mother Maureen Vadra, is a partner, along with DLF Hotel Holdings and others, in a partnership firm that owns the business hotel Hilton Garden Inn in the upscale South Delhi business district Saket. The hotel is located within the DLF Place mall, also known as DLF Courtyard. “The Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Saket is a small business hotel.

I have interest in hospitality and am happy to be part of the hotel,” Vadra told ET, speaking on the phone from Europe, where he is travelling presently. He said the business association with DLF stemmed from a long-standing friendship with the family that controls the realty giant. “I have known the DLF people for a long time and they are friends of mine. I had wanted to invest in real estate and one thing led to another. Right now, I can only be part of a small hotel.

If I were taking favours from people I would be doing far bigger things. But I am doing this on my own. I can’t expand immediately but I hope to expand a few years down the line,” he added.”

“DLF has given loans to Vadra ‘s companies

DLF has also extended loans to various companies owned by Vadra. Some of these are unsecured loans or debt without any collateral. As on March 2009, Sky Light Hospitality had received unsecured loans amounting to Rs 25 crore from DLF Ltd. As on March 2010, only Rs 10 crore remained. It ‘s unclear from the statement of accounts if the rest was paid back or written off. Sky Light Hospitality has, in turn, loaned money to other Vadraowned companies such as Blue Breeze Trading Pvt Ltd, North India IT Parks Pvt Ltd, Real Earth Estates Pvt Ltd and Sky Light Realty Pvt Ltd.

Blue Breeze Trading, a company incorporated in 2007 with Vadra and his wife Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as first directors and equal shareholders, is in the business of chartering aircraft. The company, however, seems to have done little business, apart from acquiring agricultural land. Priyanka Gandhi ceased to be a director as on July 2008. She is no longer a shareholder. Real Earth Estates Pvt Ltd also had a Rs 5 crore loan directly from DLF on its books as on March 2010.

The joint venture firm Saket Courtyard Hospitality had received Rs 3.58 crore of unsecured loans from DLF Hotel Holdings Ltd, the group company that owned 50% stake in the JV. “The business relationship of DLF Group with Robert Vadra has been in his capacity as an individual entrepreneur and on a completely transparent and arms length basis.

Look How The BJP changed its tunes.

“On March 16, the TOI reported: BJP, Left to corner Cong on Vadra’s rise:On Tuesday, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said, “The matter is a serious one and the party is gathering documents to aise it with the prominence it deserves.”
She said the party had “entrusted” leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley to collect facts on Vadra’s rise.CPM leader Sitaram Yechury was on the same track.
“It looks like a serious matter and our party is ascertaining facts and will come up with a structured reaction on this,” he said. But the story began to change, as Mr Dasgupta tweeted on March 16:Resistance in BJP on raising Vadra issue is from some a of its ex-Presidents

On March 17, the TOI reported:

Differences were evident at a meeting of BJP leaders in Parliament on Wednesday with some leaders advocating caution while some others felt Congress could be asked some questions on Vadra’s activities. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Saba Sushma Swaraj felt it would not be good form to target family members of political rivals.

Whether or not the possible counter-attack on the BJP’s own son-in-law, Mr Ranjan Bhattacharya, whose name keeps cropping up in Radia tapes and in Wikileaks cables, is one of the reasons for the BJP’s hesitation, has not found a mention in any of the discussions so far.”

See how the elusive Ranjan Bhattacharya, Vajpayee’s son-in-law is tucked in!

No wonder no Media picked the story of Economic Times.

  • ‘If SC says it is illegal,it is illegal’Law Minister on CVC.

    What a gem?

We have a Law Minster who can not stop the appointment of a tainted CVC.

    We also have HR Ministry.

No body seems to have objected to the appointment of  CVC.

PM Manmohan Singh ,as usual, is not aware.

Well, what has he been aware of, be it ISRO scam,2G scam?

Blissfully ignorant or callously indifferent or is there a crooked  politician  inside?

Look at the ‘Good Conduct Certificate he issued to Raja last year.

    Still he is Mr.Clean!

If senior appointments are to be struck down by SC, why have an Executive?

Unnecessarily forcing Judiciary to intervene into Executive and later moaning Judiciary is intervening!

    Is this all necessary?

    For some. it is.

Chief Vigilance Commissioner P J Thomas resigned from his post on Thursday following the Supreme Court verdict which quashed the appointment of the former bureaucrat.

Soon after the SC judgment was out, Union Law Minister M Veerappa MoilyImages ] met Prime Manmohan Singh [ Images ] where he reportedly told that if Thomas didn’t quit now, he will have to be dismissed.

Meanwhile, the apex court noted that Thomas’ appointment is ‘illegal’ and he must go. The SC also stated that the United Progressive AllianceImages ] government ignored the corruption taint on Thomas.

However, the palmolein case was not mentioned in the SC ruling. Thomas is an accused in the case.

The Supreme Court said that the high-powered committee’s recommendation on appointment of Thomas ‘does not exist in law.’

The committee, for whatsoever reason, failed to consider relevant material recommending action against Thomas, SC also noted.

The apex court rejected the government’s contention that vigilance clearance given by the CVC in 2008 was the basis for empanelment of Thomas as a candidate for the post of CVC.

The committee and no government authority focussed on the larger issue of institutional integrity of the office of CVC while recommending the name of Thomas, SC noted.

The apex court stated the touchstone for the appointment of the CVC is the institutional integrity as well as the personal integrity of the candidate.
