THE movement of asylum seekers around the world is complex, ebbing and flowing in response to factors such as war and strife at refugee sources, opportunity in transit and expectations of success.
,The surge in people escaping hot spots such as Sri Lanka and Afghanistan during the past 12 months is behind the influx of almost 2000 unauthorised people having reached Australian territory and now awaiting processing in detention facilities.
While the Rudd Government is right to highlight the Sri Lankan civil war and heightened tension in Afghanistan as significant push factors, it is wrong to downplay the pull side of the equation.’

Dithering by both parties is due to their fear of people’sbacklash.:whether thay shall accept allowing immigrants into Australia.
Human tragedy is more relevant than political considerations.I am sure Australian people, notwithstanding world’s perception as boorish, arrogant and racist, are quite humane and shall be for helping these wretched souls. It would be in order to allow these people into Australia wholeheartedly and accommadate them in Australia.
