    * Friends please settle down, I’ll get more emotional! It’s hard to believe my wonderful journey is coming to an end.

    * I have got a list of people to thank because sometimes I forget.

    * I would like thank everyone who has made this possible.

    * Its getting little difficult to talk but I’ll manage.

    * I would like to thank my father. Without his guidance, I don’t think I would be standing here. He told me never to take shortcuts and never give up. And above all he told me to be a better human being.

    * Every time I held my bat up, it was for my father.

    * I thank my mother for taking care of me and praying for me. A big thank you to my mother for all the sacrifices. I don’t know how she managed a naughty child like me. She just prayed and prayed from the day I started playing the game.

    * I’d like to thank my aunt and uncle who fed me while I was living with him.

    * To my siblings for their encouragement, advice and support.

*My eldest brother Nitin doesn’t like to talk much but he said, ‘whatever you do, I know you will give 100 per cent’. My first cricket bat was presented to me by my sister Savita. It was a Kashmir willow. She still continues to fast while I bat.

    * My brother Ajit has lived this journey with me. I don’t know how to thank him enough.

    * The most beautiful thing that happened to me in my life was in 1990 when I met my wife Anjali. She took a backstep from her career as a doctor and she looked after my family. Thank you for bearing with me. You’re the best partner.

    * Two precious gems of my life Sara and Arjun. I’m sorry for missing your annual day, sometimes your birthdays. Thank you for understanding that. I know for 14-16 years I’ve not spent enough time with you. But I promise you that the next 16 and the many more after that are yours.

    * I’d like to thank my in laws and my friends.

    * In the last 24 years my friends have made terrific contributions. They have been with me while I was stressed. They have been with me even at 3am when I was injured. Thanks for being there for me

    * My cricket career started when I was 11, turning point came when Ajit took me to my coach Ramakant Achrekar.

    * I would like to thank the Mumbai Cricket Association for taking care of me.

    * For 29 years my coach Achrekar has never said ‘well played’ to me as he thought I would get complacent. I was extremely delighted to see Achrekar sir in the stands. I used to ride on his scooter and play two matches a day. Sir took me along to make sure I played.

    * You are like my family away from home…my teammates. I know you will serve the country effectively. I have full faith in you guys.

    * It is going to be difficult not be part of the dressing room, not to share the special moments

    * I thank my physios, doctors for keeping me fit. My first manager, Masceranhes for all his support and encouragement.

    * I understood what it requires to play for the country. I understood the gravity of it. Thank you to everyone who shared my vision.

    * I thank the media for supporting me. I thank all the photographers as well for all the wonderful photographs.

    * Lastly, i want to thank all the people here who have flown from all over the world for supporting me. Whether it was a zero or a century, you’ve always been there for me. You guys have faste for me and done many other things. Memories like these are going to stay on with me forever. Thank you being there for me. I would not be the person I am if it wasn’t for you.

    * I’m sorry if I have forgotten someone. Goodbye..

“Friends please settle down, I’ll get more emotional. It’s hard to believe my wonderful journey is coming to an end, my life between 22 yards for 24 years has come to an end. I’ve a list of names to thank. The first is my father, who passed away in 1999. Without his guidance I wouldn’t be standing in front of you. He said ‘chase your dreams, don’t give up, the path will be difficult.’ I miss him today. My mom, I don’t know how she managed a naughty child like me. She just prayed and prayed from the day I started playing the game. For four years I stayed with my uncle and aunt when in school, they treated me like their own son. My eldest brother Nitin doesn’t like to talk much but he said, whatever you do, I know you will give 100%. My first cricket bat was presented to me by my sister Savita. She still continues to fast while I bat. Ajit my brother – we have lived this dream together, he sacrificed his career for me — he took me to Achrekar sir first. Even last night he called me to discuss my dismissal. Even when I’m not playing we will still be discussing technique. If that hadn’t happened, I would have been a lesser cricketer.

“The most beautiful thing happened to me when I met Anjali in 1990. I know that being a doctor there was a big career in front of her. But she decides that I should continue playing and she took care of the children. Thanks for bearing with me for all the nonsense I’ve said (Anjali wipes tears). Then the two precious diamonds of my life Sara and Arjun. I’ve missed out on several birthdays, holidays, annual days. I know for 14-16 years I’ve not spent enough time with you. But I promise you I will spend the next 16 or whatever is left. “My in-laws — I’ve discussed several things with them. The most important thing they did was allow me to marry Anjali. In the last 24 years my friends have made terrific contributions. They have been with me while I was stressed. They have been with me even at 3 AM when I was injured. Thanks for being there for me. “My career started when I was 11. I was extremely delighted to see Achrekar sir in the stands. I used to ride on his scooter and play two matches a day. Sir took me along to make sure I played. On a lighter note, Sir never said ‘well played’ because he didn’t want me to be complacent. You can push your luck now, Sir, since I’m not playing cricket anymore. “I started my career here in Mumbai. I remember landing from NZ at 4 AM and playing a Ranji game the next day. The BCCI was fantastic from my debut. Thanks to the selectors. You were right with me making sure my treatment was taken care of. “Thanks to all the senior cricketers who have played with me. We see on the screen Rahul, VVS, Sourav and Anil — who is not here. All the coaches. I know when MS presented the 200th Test cap, I had a message to the team — I said we are all so proud to be representing the nation. I hope to continue to serve the nation with dignity. I have full faith that you will serve the country in the right spirit. I will be failing in my duty if I didn’t thank the doctors who have kept me fit. Given the injuries I have suffered. They have treated me in odd hours. My dear friend the late Mark Mascarenhas. I miss him. My current management team WSG, for continuing what Mark has done. Someone who has worked closely with me for 14 years is my friend Vinay Nayudu. “The media has backed me a lot, since my school days. Even today. Thank you. Thanks to the photographers for capturing those moments. “I know my speech has become long. I want to thank people who have flown in from different parts of the world. I want to thank my fans from the bottom of my heart. “Sachin, Sachin” will reverberate in my ears till I stop breathing.”

  • Gavaskar’s Amoral Justification On IPL Match Fixing ‘Slip Is Showing’

Sunil Gavaskar‘s justification of his ‘Silence’ on IPL Corruption,Match Fixing and On N.Srinivasan is bizarre to say the least.

    Sunil Manohar Gavskar, Cricketer, India.
Legendary India batsman Sunil Gavaskar. Pic/MiD DAY Archives

His arguments run on two points.

1.His Contract with BCCI is for the ‘Exclusivity’, for his non-appearance in other Channels.

He says he was being paid by the BCCI from the Age of 12, when he started playing for Schools and the difference, he rues, is only the quantum of Money.

Mr.Gavaskar, nobody denied that you have been on contract with BCCI, nor your remuneration.

The issue, in case you chose to forget, I can not believe this for Gavaskar is highly cerebral and loquacious, is precisely that!

    That of Conflict of interest.

When you work for someone, you seem to be working from the age of 12 for The BCCI, you can not take another assignment which is in conflict with what you are engaged in.That’s what exactly you have been doing scrupulously.

It is natural for you not to talk about the on-goings in IPL or BCCI.

That’s what is meant by your ‘Silence’, not anything else.

“There are reasons given about why I am ‘silent’, and the main reason is that my ‘silence’ has been bought by the TV contract that the BCCI has with me. Firstly, now that the BCCI has its own production house, it is well within its rights to contract those who they want to, just like other sports channels have contracted some other players to do commentary for them.

The reason why such contracts are done is to obtain exclusivity from the contracted entity so that he/ she does not appear on a rival channel and that is why good money is paid to the former players. That is also why I have not appeared on another TV channel excepting the news channel that has a contract with me.

    Contract issue
If all those who are reporting on the episodes for their papers or TV channels cannot write for a rival paper or appear on another TV channel, then how can I appear on a news channel other than the one I’m contracted to? And since I don’t appear on the other channels, does it mean I am being silent?

Just like every player, I have been directly or indirectly contracted to BCCI since the age of 12, when I first played for Mumbai schools. I was then given one rupee per day if I remember correctly by the Mumbai Cricket Association. So throughout my playing career, I was under contract with the BCCI either directly or through its affiliate, the Mumbai Cricket Association. It is just that the quantum of the fees has changed from the 1 rupee that I first got when I played for Mumbai schools and that is thought as being the reason for my so called silence.

During the time that I played, I did speak up for the playing fraternity to ensure that their rights were looked after. I could have been dropped, but I did speak out for what I felt was right for my playing fraternity, and, believe me, playing for India was more important than any monetary inducement and yet I did not shy away from speaking my mind.”

When and what was the issue you spoke about that could have forced the BCCI drop you?

Exactly what happened between you and Bishen Singh Bedi, you and Kapil Dev are known to people who follow  not only your game but your  Game!

    2.”It’s up to Srini
So whether Mr Srinivasan should stay or step aside while the probe committee does its job is a moral issue, and it is for him to take a call on that. That has been my stand, and since it is not one that resonates with most TV channels and the print media, I am accused of being silent.

It is for the BCCI and Mr Srinivasan to take a call on the issue facing Indian cricket today because it is a moral issue. It is not for me to advise them what to do as everybody else seems to be doing, and if that is taken as being bought then good luck to democracy in our country.’

By the same token, let the batsmen or bowler do what they do.

    Why do you comment?

Because it is your job as a commentator.

Similarly is it not your responsibility as a Legendary Batsman of India, who is regarded as an Icon by Cricketers and people of this Country, to speak out against Corruption and Moral turpitude?

What exactly did you do in Lalith Modi’s case?

“The police agencies are doing their job so the criminality or otherwise will be established by them. As for the morality part, it is a free world and to each his own. What maybe immoral to one may not be immoral to another, and as long as it is within the framework of the laws that govern our country, nobody should be forced to say or do anything against their will is what I believe in.’

Yes, it is a Free country, every one has their opinions,

But the point is people show themselves when a Moral issue is involved.

    Mr.Gavaskar,your slip is showing.

  • Drunk Shah Rukh Khan Abuses, Banned for Life from Wankhede?

Shah Rukh Khan who is a very good PRO did a bad PR job for himself.

He reportedly abused the security guards and the MCA officials using choicest words.

He was also drunk , it was reported.

Shah Rukh Khan denied he was drunk.”It is wrong to say that I was under the influence of alcohol. I was not drunk, only misbehaved when I was provoked. Security officers bullied me,” SRK said.”

Look at what an ACP, Maharastra has to say on this.

Iqbal Sheikh, Mumbai assistant commissioner of police (ACP), confirmed on Thursday that film star and Kolkata Knight Riders‘ owner Shah Rukh Khan was in a drunken state when he was involved in a late on Wednesday night brawl at the Wankhede Stadium.

Shah Rukh was drunk. He was smelling of alcohol but he was not drinking at the Wankhede stadium. But it is not an offence. He was also abusing and threatening the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) and BCCI ( Board of Control for Cricket in India) officials,” said Sheikh, who had to intervene Wednesday night to prevent the incident from turning ugly.

Shah Rukh got into a brawl with MCA and BCCI officials after his team defeated Mumbai Indians in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match Wednesday night. Shah Rukh and his entourage, comprising Morani brothers, wanted to celebrate after the presentation ceremony but he was not allowed to do so. What irked Shah Rukh was that MCA officials switched off the flood lights.

Sheikh, who is also member of the MCA managing committee, was present at the ground on match duty and had to rush to prevent the situation from turning ugly.

“I took him out and separated him because the incident was turning ugly. While being taken away he was showering abuses on MCA and BCCI officials. We are investigating the matter,”

An ACP saying that being Drunk in Public is no Crime!

    Fan of SRK?

Any one who watches IPL matches can vouch that SRK is drunk when he visits he venues of the matches, by looking at the stupid grin that is the trade mark of Drunks.

In his reply Shah Rukh Khan said that ‘he would do it again’

He added that the security people manhandled his children and that he used abusive language as well.

Mahaashtra CM and MCA Chairman Vilas rao Deshmukh ststed that action would be taken by the MCA .

In the mean while, Mumbai Police have called Shah Rukh Khan for an enquiry to-day.

These Super Stars, take the filmi dialogues and what is written by the media about them seriously and believe that they are above us ordinary mortals and therefore above the Law.

Time that they are shown their position, that is they are entertainers on par with any other entertainer, like a road side one and nothing more.

The difference is that these Stars are paid more than what they deserve , thanks to commercialism!
