The Gay Marriage issue has hotted up in The US, the case has reached The Supreme Court for hearing and is being hotly debated.
The Supreme Court,US To hear Gay Marriage.
What has hitherto an aberration in Behavior, has been taken as sanctioned socially.
They may not agree that it has never been an aberration.
The whole issue snowballed into a Legal and Constitutional Controversy because California vetoed Gay Marriage and a Couple (Gay) have approached the Court for marriage.
What beats me is the argument that the Homosexuals couples want to be treated on par with hetero sexual couples!
The very terms used to denote these groups distinctly is, because of their difference, behaviour.
It is like making a Circle equal to a Square!
What exactly are these people demanding now?
To be treated on par with hetero sexual Family and the benefits?
You want the approval of the Society?
You did not listen to the objection of the majority, normal one at that,of going Homosexual, citing all and sundry arguments to justify not-normal behaviour!
You went ahead.
Why do you seek approval from the Society , only to claim the benefits from the Society?
Or respect and regards from the people?
This is obtained by vilification or arguments but by adhering to Social Norms.
Since you chose a different path, have a set of rules and benefits among yourselves for yourselves.
Well. you can not eat the cake and have it too.
Story:
Inside the court’s ornate chambers, some justices wanted to slow things down.
“You want us to step in and render a decision based on an assessment of the effects of this institution, which is newer than cellphones or the Internet?” Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. asked. “We do not have the ability to see the future.”
Even Justice Sonia Sotomayor, whose questioning indicated that she was skeptical of the reasons proffered for why gay couples should not be allowed to marry, seemed to think that it might not be time for the court to make a bold decision.
“If the issue is letting the states experiment and letting the society have more time to figure out its direction, why is taking a case now the answer?” she asked.
A ‘difficult question’
Sotomayor’s question indicated the complicated nature of the case at hand.
Washington lawyer Charles J. Cooper is representing proponents of Proposition 8 in defending the law, since California officials have refused. He said the court should respect the decision of California voters, who faced the “agonizingly difficult question” of whether to protect traditional marriage after the state Supreme Court ruled that gay couples could wed.
Theodore B. Olson, representing two California couples who want to marry, wants Proposition 8 overturned. But he is also pushing the court to find that the Constitution demands that the fundamental right to marry be extended to same-sex couples nationwide.
United for Marriage has organizeddozens of pro-gay marriage eventsacross the nation Tuesday, many with the aid of Episcopal, United Church of Christ, Methodist, Unitarian Universalist and other congregations.
Meanwhile, anti-same sex marriage groups, including the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Family Research Council and the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, have also made broad calls, each asking for prayers this week in support of keeping laws that bar same-sex marriage on the books.
The IT Commissioner of IT, Nagpur Appellate Tribunal averred that worship of Lord Shiva,Hanuman and Goddess Durga is not a Religious Act and disallowed the expenses incurred in conducting Pooja on this account by Shiv Mandir Devstan Panch Committee,Nagpur!
He refused to allow more than 5% of expenses incurred.
Are the Hindu temples coming under HR& CE taxed and if so under what Rules?
Is the haj Pilgrimage taxed ?
If not it has to be disallowed on the ground that it is nothing but going around Stone!
The knowledgeable Commissioner also states that ‘Technically, Hinduism is neither a Religion nor a Community”
The first part, strictly applying the Vedas is correct.
The second part that it is not a community is incorrect.
if the IT Commissioner’s ruling on Hinduism is correct (It is), then India should declare it as India’s State Policy as it suits more to its ‘Secular image definition!’
The observation came when the tribunal was hearing an appeal by Nagpur-based Shiv Mandir Devstan Panch Committee Sanstan against an income tax commissioner’s order denying it tax exemption on grounds that more than 5% of its expenditure was incurred on religious activities.
The I-T act stipulates that for the purpose of tax exemption, an institution or trust must not be for the benefit of any particular religious community or caste.
Differing with the I-T commissioner’s order, the tribunal said, “Expenses on worshipping of Lord Shiva, Hanuman, Goddess Durga and on maintenance of the temple cannot be regarded as having been incurred for religious purposes.”…..
“Technically, Hinduism is neither a religion nor a community,” the tribunal said.
Heartrending scenes were witnessed as the excavators went to work. Every time their gigantic metal claws moved, they smashed homes, roofs, water tanks. Anything that came in the way.
In the aftermath, the now homeless Ejipura residents ventured out, salvaging what was left of their belongings, trying to pull out a mangled tin roof here, looking for anything else they could pick up there.
For the second day in a row, residents resisted, without much success, their ejection from Ejipura. They are not the original owners of the sheds but tenants who have moved here, most of them working, or finding work, nearby.
On Saturday, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) resumed its demolition of the shanties at the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Quarters with heavy police protection. This grim task was preceded by the arrest of around 25 residents and rights group activists. They included Kaveri Indira, a researcher from the Indian Institute of Science, and Gee Ameena Suleiman, a filmmaker. Both had joined the protest against the forced eviction and demolition, and tension prevailed when the police led them away.
The BBMP has entered into a joint development agreement with the Maverick Holding and Investment Pvt. Ltd. to construct multi-level residential complexes for the original 1,512 EWS allottees in around seven acres of the 15 acres and commercially exploit the remaining prime property by constructing a mall. Each acre here is worth Rs.10 crore to Rs.12 crore.
Rosemary (60) one of the thousands rendered homeless by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s recent demolition drive at Ejipura, died on Tuesday evening after spending nearly three days out in the open. Before the bulldozers arrived, Rosemary lived stayed in her 150 sq ft tin hut with her son Sasi Kumar (46), daughter Sobha (38), her husband Govindraj (40) and their six children aged between 17 and 5.
Speaking to The Hindu early on Wednesday morning Ms. Sobha said that her mother’s death was a direct consequence of the demolition. “She had barely eaten anything in the last few days. All she did was cry. The cold [out in the open] was unbearable. She was trembling and was constantly complaining about the cold,” she said.’ ( The Hindu)
Note the last para in conjunction with the fact that the BBMP had gone ahead because “‘The BBMP has entered into a joint development agreement with the Maverick Holding and Investment Pvt. Ltd. to construct multi-level residential complexes for the original 1,512 EWS allottees in around seven acres of the 15 acres and commercially exploit the remaining prime property by constructing a mall. Each acre here is worth Rs.10 crore to Rs.12 crore”
Also the fact the illegally constructed shops doing Crores of Turn over in Ranganathan street,T.Nagar,Chennai went scot-free after an initial show of token demolition and it was “business as usual”
Illegal Business Establishments attract a Sea of humanity. Ranganathan Street,Chennai.
‘It is six weeks now since the civic body, armed with the Madras high court order, demolished illegal projections and concrete structures on Ranganathan Street, T Nagar. However, traders in the street have not learnt any lesson, it appears. Most of them have encroached several feet on public space again, displaying their wares on makeshift wooden shelves and benches on the roadside.
According to revenue records, the original width of the road is 30.6 ft. “The high court’s directive to the local body is about demolition of all encroachments being completed by May 13. However, this has not happened” said K R Ramasamy ( Traffic’ Ramasamy), whose petition in the high court resulted in the demolition order”
It seems to me that there is nothing to be against Freedom or Second Amendment as the gun Lobby would want you believe.
It is clear that even basic checks were not made while issuing Guns, back checks are not reported if made,Review of Individuals to whom Guns have been issued,no adequate Laws to authorize the Authorities to run a back round check before the Guns are returned , no checks were in place to regulate the selling of guns by Arms dealers…!
It appears that the US, till now, has been a Wild West!
