US must have been aware of the fact the funds to Pakistan will be utilized for bank rolling terrorist out fits.
US had gone ahead on the assumption that this gesture would enable US to have access,as a token, to Intelligence and leverage in Pakistan.
Now that the major issue of killing Osama is over, US can afford to be belligerent.
Pakistan can do nothing about it,like a dumb expressing a dream.(my father used a slight variation to this,Tamilians may know of it,especially Brahmins)
The U.S. and Pakistan are engaged in a billing dispute of sizable proportions, sparring behind closed doors over billions of dollars Washington pays Islamabad to fight al Qaeda and other militants along the Afghanistan border.
Much of the information-gathering network of Pakistan’s supreme security service was curtailed in the tribal areas in General Pervez Musharraf’s era, consequently giving the edge to America’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), it is reliably learnt. The entire territory of North and South Waziristan was given in the direct access of the CIA which has since developed its stronghold in the belt.
Yet Pakistan says it did not collaborate with the US.
If true , this should be the greatest failure on the intelligence front.
If it were true, it is a reminder to us all that in the name of economic independence and individual freedom we are destroying Human Values and are sounding the death knell of the Great Institution,Family.
Wake up,Life is about compromises ,adjustments, responsibilities, sharing and a bit of selflessness .
Of late it has become impossible to know the news about Osama bin Laden is true or a figment of imagination.
Considering that he was hiding in the open this is not only probable but possible.
Story:
Letterman: Osama bin Laden’s Diary: ‘April 12 – Dear Diary, Awful TV reception. Death to Time Warner!’ April 20 – Dear Diary, three wives and one bathroom. You do the math.’
Fallon: Yup, Bin Laden reportedly had a porn stash in his hideout. Some interesting titles: ‘Debbie Does Abbottabad,’ ‘Deep Goat’ and ‘Bare Ankles 4.’
Conan: President Obama says the Bin Laden raid was the longest 40 minutes of his life. With the possible exception of every time he asks Joe Biden, ‘Hey, what’s up?’
Letterman: Osama bin Laden did suffer after all. He was cooped up six years with three wives always complaining that he never took them anywhere. Finally, the SEALs arrive and Bin Laden says, ‘What took you so long?’
Letterman: Did you hear of the SEALs’ backup plan? Invite Osama Bin Laden to an Italian restaurant and tape a gun to the toilet.
Letterman: We’re learning more about Osama Bin Laden’s plans. He wanted to create chaos in Washington. Well, thank God that didn’t happen!

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Late one night last November, a plane carrying dozens of Colombian men touched down in this glittering seaside capital. Whisked through customs by an Emirati intelligence officer, the group boarded an unmarked bus and drove roughly 20 miles to a windswept military complex in the desert sand….
The Colombians had entered the United Arab Emirates posing as construction workers. In fact, they were soldiers for a secret American-led mercenary army being built by Erik Prince, the billionaire founder ofBlackwater Worldwide, with $529 million from the oil-soaked sheikdom.
Mr. Prince, who resettled here last year after his security business faced mounting legal problems in the United States, was hired by the crown prince of Abu Dhabi to put together an 800-member battalion of foreign troops for the U.A.E., according to former employees on the project, American officials and corporate documents obtained by The New York Times.
The force is intended to conduct special operations missions inside and outside the country, defend oil pipelines and skyscrapers from terrorist attacks and put down internal revolts, the documents show. Such troops could be deployed if the Emirates faced unrest in their crowded labor camps or were challenged by pro-democracy protests like those sweeping the Arab world this year.
The U.A.E.’s rulers, viewing their own military as inadequate, also hope that the troops could blunt the regional aggression of Iran, the country’s biggest foe, the former employees said. The training camp, located on a sprawling Emirati base called Zayed Military City, is hidden behind concrete walls laced with barbed wire. Photographs show rows of identical yellow temporary buildings, used for barracks and mess halls, and a motor pool, which houses Humvees and fuel trucks. The Colombians, along with South African and other foreign troops, are trained by retired American soldiers and veterans of the German and British special operations units and the French Foreign Legion, according to the former employees and American officials.
In outsourcing critical parts of their defense to mercenaries — the soldiers of choice for medieval kings, Italian Renaissance dukes and African dictators — the Emiratis have begun a new era in the boom in wartime contracting that began after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. And by relying on a force largely created by Americans, they have introduced a volatile element in an already combustible region where the United States is widely viewed with suspicion.
The United Arab Emirates — an autocracy with the sheen of a progressive, modern state — are closely allied with the United States, and American officials indicated that the battalion program had some support in Washington.
“The gulf countries, and the U.A.E. in particular, don’t have a lot of military experience. It would make sense if they looked outside their borders for help,” said one Obama administration official who knew of the operation. “They might want to show that they are not to be messed with.”
Still, it is not clear whether the project has the United States’ official blessing. Legal experts and government officials said some of those involved with the battalion might be breaking federal laws that prohibit American citizens from training foreign troops if they did not secure a license from the State Department.
Mark C. Toner, a spokesman for the department, would not confirm whether Mr. Prince’s company had obtained such a license, but he said the department was investigating to see if the training effort was in violation of American laws. Mr. Toner pointed out that Blackwater (which renamed itself Xe Services ) paid $42 million in fines last year for training foreign troops in Jordan and other countries over the years.
The U.A.E.’s ambassador to Washington, Yousef al-Otaiba, declined to comment for this article. A spokesman for Mr. Prince also did not comment.
We hear some sensible voices on the Affairs in Pakistan with out tunnel vision.
Proud people who do not want to beg and become a vassal of the US;we have politicians running like a frightened children to the US.
Majority of people do not seem to like Terror Groups, while the Government ,Army and ISI play hide and seek with terrorists.
People need clean Government yet call a corrupt and exiled leader to lead the Country.
They want openness, while the Government signs an agreement with the US to hunt Osama, but declares it has not.
Government brags that it can meet any external threat but says it was not aware of foreign Elite Troops entering their territory deep, conduct about an hour operation ,spirit away dead bodies.
One is called the mass Leader(Z.A.Bhutto), yet hangs him.
Rich in Culture and Humane,Pakistan where are you?
People seem furious for sheltering Osama’ the Government does not know how to react
The Lahore High Courtlawyers show their true fanatic and reactionary colors by actually offering funeral prayers (” Namaz-e-Janaza“) for the recently killed Al Qaida leader, Osama Bin Laden. Hundreds of lawyers attended this “funeral” and immediately afterwards there were several speeches in which the speakers vehemently condemned the US action and termed it as a clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty. Several speakers hailed the dead leader as a “hero” of the Muslim world and sternly warned USA that after his “martyrdom” the opposition to its hegemony would actually increase.
PTH condemns such actions from the lawyers and expresses concerns that the legal community is increasingly displaying worrisome signs by veering towards path of religous fanaticism.
