The proof is here as to who guzzle energy and contribute to Global Pollution.
Irony is that these countries and the EU are taxing the countries like India under the guise of carbon Tax!
India is pondering to hit back.
Hope it does.

Britain and Europe at Night.
Light show: An image of the U.S. from space highlighting the staggering light pollution, especially on the east coast, in Houston, Texas, and San Francisco and Los Angeles on the west coastIn darkness: Third World countries in Africa barely register any light at night in contrast to the West, apart from an amazing trail of light from Cairo running down the Nile in EgyptGlobal view: A satellite picture of the energy waste in the West and darkness in the rest of world showing how much more energy the rich world uses than other areas
At night, London is a burning bright spot, consuming enough energy to power Ireland with its light show.
But as these stunning images from space show, we in the West are guilty of wasting energy and polluting light on a staggering scale.
Each year London consumes 150 thousand gigawatt hours of energy, equal to the consumption of nations such as Portugal and Greece.
Campaigners have warned that 50 per cent of the UK’s population cannot see many stars because the night skies are ‘saturated’ with light pollution.
The pictures created by scientist Felix Pharand-DeschÍnes using data gathered by satellites highlight the contrast between the first and third world.
They show Egypt’s densely populated River Nile as it scorches a path through the darkness of Northern Africa while Japan is wall-to-wall light.
America shines brightly, but south of its border the countries are almost lightless and in central Asia, India and Australia barely any light is registered.
‘A ‘sacred stone’ from Venezuela that has been taken to Berlin, Germany and turned into sculpture has strained Germany – Venezuela relations as Germany is in a fix whether to return the stone to Venezuela or not.
Wolfgang von Schwarzenfeld’s sculptures in a Berlin park were meant to promote world peace, but the 79-year-old German now finds himself at war with a Venezuelan tribe which accuses him of stealing a sacred pink stone known to them as “Grandmother”.
With Caracas calling it robbery, and the sculptor arguing that the stone was a legal gift, the monolith is emitting more negative energy than its esoteric fans in Berlin are used to.
The Venezuelan tribe has accused that stone’s removal is bringing misfortune on the tribe, like drought and the disappearance of the ants they eat in spicy sauce.
“Saudi Arabia has finally noticed it has twenty centuries of solar reserves and has made plans to tap them. For its own use. The Kingdom has just announced a $109 billion plan to create a solar industry that generates a third of the nation’s electricity by 2032, according to Bloomberg Businessweek. Maher al- Odan, a consultant at the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE) announced a plan to have 41 GW of solar capacity within two decades.
To put 41 GW in perspective, China is the world’s leader in wind power now, overtaking Germany and the U.S. with about 48 GW of wind. This is a very serious move by a country well able to afford this kind of investment, that till recently has lagged the rest of the MENA region in renewables trailing Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and the United Arab Emirates.
Traditional photovoltaic (PV) solar is to supply 16 GW, but the bulk of the solar (25 GW) is to come from the very desert-friendly concentrated solar power (CSP) that focuses the sun with mirrors to create the intense heat that drives turbines in a thermal power plant. Citing government officials, Deutsche Bank said the capacity would be added in competitive bidding starting with 1,100 megawatts of PV and 900 megawatts of solar thermal in the first quarter of 2013. A second round of bidding is due in the second half of 2014.
Solar Reserve, which is constructing the largest 24 hour solar CSP project worldwide in Nevada has already been in talks with the Saudis. Kevin Smith the CEO of Solar Reserve told GreenProphet that the company is among those looking to bid. The CSP company uses similar technology to the Gemasolar project built in Spain by Abu Dhabi’s visionary state-funded clean energy company Masdar. Because both use molten salt as both the transfer liquid and the storage medium, they can supply electricity long after dark.
“They really only–in the last couple of years–have started to really increase their solar activity” he said of Saudi solar ambitions. “We expect there will be projects going into construction in Saudi next year. Hopefully with us, but certainly, with someone. We expect that their program will kick off next year. We hope we get can projects in construction in 2013.”
The Saudis could potentially save 523,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day over the next 20 years by such a boost to renewable energy, according to Saudi officials. “The difficulties the Saudis have is their economy is all oil based” Smith concurred. “Really they want to maximise their exports of oil, but really what they’re using a lot of their oil for power generation in the country. It’s fine if oil is $20 a barrel, but now that they can sell it for $100 plus a barrel, it’s not a very cost-effective use of their oil.”
Nuclear, wind and geothermal would together contribute just half that amount at a still staggering 21,000 megawatts (21 GW) as we covered here: Solar-Rich Saudis Running after Nukes. But the new solar plans dwarf these. As they should. “We are not only looking for building solar plants,” al- Odan said in an interview in Riyadh yesterday. “We want to run a sustainable solar energy sector that will become a driver for the domestic energy for years to come.”
The Saudis may require bid winners to supply from factories built in the nation, according to Vishal Shah, an analyst at Deutsche Bank AG in New York, as we have covered previously: Saudis to Make Desert Sands into Solar Polysilicon. About $82 billion will go to capital costs, with the remainder of the $109 billion going to train the Saudis to run the solar plants as well as for maintenance and operation, al-Odan told Bloomberg. Once the strategy, which includes new regulations and financial incentives for private investors, is approved “we will start implementation directly,” al-Odan said.
Saudi Arabia may burn 850 million barrels of oil a year, or 30 percent of its crude output, to generate electricity by 2030 if doesn’t become efficient in energy consumption, Electricity & Co-Generation Regulatory Authority Governor Abdullah Al-Shehri said in a presentation in Riyadh May 8.
Its plans are likely to be approved later this year, al-Suliman said, according to a copy of the presentation he gave on May 8. “The Saudi Arabian government has a powerful incentive to diversify its energy mix to reduce dependence on oil,” said Logan Goldie-Scot, an analyst at New Energy Finance in London. Assuming initial capital costs for the solar projects of about $2.17 per watt of capacity installed, he added “The state could generate an internal rate of return of approximately 12 percent if it built a PV plant and sold the displaced oil on the international markets.”
Susan Kraemer writes for the Green Prophet, from where this article was adapted.
Sometime back ,the then Collector of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Sahayam, who is known to be incorruptible IAS Officer compiled a Report on Granite quarries in Madurai District of Tamil Nadu.
He estimated that a sum of Rs. 16,000 Crore was the sum involved by manipulation of the Accounts by the Granite Companies.
Now, the new Collector Mr.Ansul Misra, has started following up the case and has raided 128 quarries and has filed over 50 cases against 49 Companies.
( You are right, the honest Collector Sahayam was transferred. However there is talk of him being posted as Special Officer for this case).
One of the methods for defrauding the Government was to take on Lease a Land near the place where Granite is available and quarrying will go on.
The place which they have taken on lease will have very negligible deposits of Granite.
However, the Companies will smuggle in the quality Granite from Government quarries and these will be shown as from the private quarry.
The useless Granite will find its way to the Government quarries.
The granites thus accumulated shall be sold.
In one instance,45 Cu.M. was shown as 3 Cu.M.
You will know the enormity of the fraud when you know the cost of Granite is Rs. 70,000 per Cu.m!.this could not have been carried out with out the connivance of the Government officials.
The Departments involved are TAMIN(Tamil Nadu Minerals),Revenue,District Administration,Police and The Pollution Control Board.
This has been going on for the past 15 Years.
One of the quarry Business men is reported to have threatened a senior officer that he has the details of the Bribe Details with names and dates
he is reported to have warned that as in Karnataka they can control the States.
Furious the Government is reported to have seized the CD,purported to contain these details and also a diary.
This,it is said to contain names and detail payments made to Politicians, including a Central Minister,Senior officers.
Well when there is corruption can DMK be left behind?
Azhagiri’s,Union minister for fertilizer, son Durai Dayanidhi is a Director of Olympus , a Company engaged in quarrying.
20 cases have been filed against his company.
The argument of Durai Dayanidhi’s lawyer is astonishing.
He states that the Government has charged that the company has shown 4000 Cu,M. while the Granite quarried from the earth is only 200 Cu.M.
He argues that they have mined from above the ground including a mountain and there is nothing wrong in the accounts.
He adds that Granite can be valued only after it has been sold and payment received from the Customer. and till then it is useless stone.
hence there is no question of defrauding the Government!
Reminds one of 2 G notional Loss.
As a foot Note I may add that AIADMK also involved in this massive fraud.
It is reported that an AIADMK Minister who is known for his humility and from the area is involved.
Another Blog on ‘The Missing Check Dams,Mining beneath the Villages,Missing Quarries and Illegal Quarries’ follow.
This is built with Advanced Technology and safety standards with Russian Know how and the design is functioning well in many parts of the world including Scandinavian countries.
The project, being established at a cost of Rs.16,000 Crores near Tuticoriin,Tamil Nadu has been under construction/commission for the past 10 years.
Now suddenly out of the blue a group comes out stating that the plant is not safe, quoting Fukushima Disaster, which was triggered by Tsunami in Japan.
Koodankulam has been secured with adequate and possible precaution to ward off any calamity of the nature Fukushima.
However, the hazards associated with any Nuclear plant exists.
On this ground one can not object to a nuclear plant.
The argument by one Udaya Kumar, who seems to have sprung up suddenly, does not contain any information for his misgivings on the safety of the Koodankulam plant excepting a vague statement that the Plant will be hit by a tsunami and that people will be affected by Nuclear radiation.
He is unable to lay any specific problem excepting to raise the voice and rhetoric.
Tamil Nadu political parties without knowing what the whole issue is about are supporting him.
Especially Weeping Vaiko, is raising temperature without any fact at his disposal and is appealing to Tamil sentiment.
After the entry of Dr.Abdul Kalam who has inspected the facility and his measured analysis of the Safety at the Nuclear Plant, there seems to be some semblance of sanity among the mob crying for shut down of the plant.
Note that after the intercession by the Church to its parishioners to keep away from the controversy, the tone of the protesters has become measured.
Also worth noting is the fact that Koodankulam is Russian designed and not by US/France.
An Inter-Governmental Agreement on the project was signed on November 20, 1988 by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Soviet PresidentMikhail Gorbachev. The project remained in limbo for 10 years due to political and economic upheaval in Russia after the post-1991 Soviet breakup, and also due to objections of the United States on the grounds that the agreement does not meet the 1992 terms of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
There are negotiations over the possible addition of a naval base at the site, both safeguarding the project and as a presence in the southern tip of the country. A small port became operational in Kudankulam on January 14, 2004. This port was established to receive barges carrying over sized light water reactor equipment from ships anchored at a distance of 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi). Until 2004 materials had to be brought in via road from the port ofTuticorin, risking damage during transportation.
In 2008 negotiation on building four additional reactors at the site began. Though the capacity of these reactors has not been declared, it is expected that the capacity of each reactor will be 1000 MW or 1 GW. The new reactors would bring the total capacity of the power plant to 9200 MW or 9.2 GW.
In June 2011, Sergei Ryzhov, the chief designer of the light water VVER nuclear reactors used at this Nuclear Power Plant was killed in an airplane accident. The plane belonging to the Rus-Air airlines was flying from Moscow to the Karelian capital Petrozavodsk.
Technical description
Two 1 GW reactors of the VVER-1000 model are being constructed by the Nuclear Power corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and Atomstroyexport. When completed they will become the largest nuclear power generation complex in India producing a cumulative 2 GW of electric power. Both units are water cooled water moderated power reactors.[11] The first was scheduled to start operation in December 2009 and the second one was scheduled for March 2010. Currently, the official projections put unit 1 into operation in June 2011, and unit 2 will go in March 2012.
“Technologically, Kudankulam is the safest and most advanced nuclear power plant in the world”, said Mr Kadakin.
According to the Ambassador, it is surprising that while the Fukushima accident occurred last March, the protests against the scheduled launch of NPP Kudankulam whose organizers refer to the Fukushima tragedy, have begun only recently.
He also added that the Russian side closely watches further developments around Kudankulam.
On Friday the Prime Minister received the delegation of the anti-nuclear plant agitators, who submitted two memoranda reflecting local concerns about Kudankulam. The Prime Minister stated that he intended to send a governmental delegation to the power plant area in order to discuss the situation with the locals and examine the security issues on the spot.
On Wednesday, October 12, Dr Manmohan Singh in a second letter to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa sought her continued support for the Kudankulam nuclear power plant. He also reiterated that the use of nuclear energy in the country meets the highest safety standards.
Last month South India witnessed mass protests against the Kudankulam start-up. The protesters claimed that they were against not Russian technologies in particular, but nuclear energy in general, as they considered it dangerous. However, shortly after the protests were suspended, as the authorities agreed to listen to the critics of nuclear energy.
At the IAEA General Conference held in Vienna on September 20 Mr Sergey Kirienko, Director of Rosatom, told journalists offstage that the first Kudankulam unit is planned to be made operational by the end of this year. He noted that Rosatom entered the final stage in preparing a contract with the Indian partners on construction of the Kudankulam third and fourth power units, while the launch of the second unit was scheduled for the first half-year of 2012.
Upon results of the tender, PROM Engineering (Russia) was awarded a contract for the manufacture and supply of an automated radiation monitoring system (ARMS) in the framework of constructing two power units of Kudankulam NPP with WWER-1000 reactors in India.
The Kudankulam NPP ARMS has a number of considerable advantages when compared to the existing systems at Russian nuclear plants today due to the great reliability provided by its system structure, the wide range of objectives that it can achieve, the use of state-of-the-art instrumentation with wide measurement ranges, software usability and equipment serviceability.
About ARMS
ARMS is the major system for control of radiation safety at the NPP. It allows damage to one or other of the protective barriers to be identified at an early stage and prevents the penetration of radionuclides into the environment. Information exchange between the Automatic Process Control System and ARMS enables continuous analysis of the NPP to be carried out and failures with the main process equipment to be predicted.
ARMS combines both continuous and periodical monitoring functions:
monitoring of the radiation process
monitoring of the radiation status in a power unit and at the site
monitoring of gaseous and particle releases into the atmosphere
monitoring of radionuclide releases into the open aquatic environment
monitoring of the spread of radioactive contamination
monitoring of collective and individual radiation doses received by personnel
